Titus 3

1Put them in mind to be in subjection to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready unto every good work,

1Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, and to be ready to do every good work.

2to speak evil of no man, not to be contentious, to be gentle, showing all meekness toward all men.

2Tell them not to speak evil of anyone, to avoid fighting, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward everyone.

3For we also once were foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.

3For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, and led astray. We were slaves to many kinds of passions and pleasures, living in malice and envy, being hated by others and hating one another.

4But when the kindness of God our Saviour, and his love toward man, appeared,

4But when the kindness of God our Savior and his love for mankind appeared,

5not by works done in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

5he saved us, not because of any righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

6which he poured out upon us richly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

6whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior.

7that, being justified by his grace, we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

7He did this so that, having been made right by his grace, we might become heirs with the hope of eternal life.

8Faithful is the saying, and concerning these things I desire that thou affirm confidently, to the end that they who have believed God may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men:

8This is a trustworthy saying. I want you to emphasize these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

9but shun foolish questionings, and genealogies, and strifes, and fightings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

9But avoid foolish arguments, genealogies, quarrels, and fights about the law, because these things are useless and worthless.

10A factious man after a first and second admonition refuse;

10Warn a person who causes divisions once, and then a second time. After that, have nothing more to do with them.

11knowing that such a one is perverted, and sinneth, being self-condemned.

11You know that such a person has turned away and is sinning; they are self-condemned.

12When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, give diligence to come unto me to Nicopolis: for there I have determined to winter.

12As soon as I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, because I have decided to spend the winter there.

13Set forward Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.

13Do everything you can to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way, and see that they have everything they need.

14And let our people also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

14Our people must also learn to devote themselves to doing good works to meet urgent needs, so that their lives will not be unproductive.

15All that are with me salute thee. Salute them that love us in faith. Grace be with you all.
