YLT

Young's Literal Translation · 1862

1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercy of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing unto God, your reasonable service.

1I call upon you, therefore, brethren, through the compassions of God, to present your bodies a sacrifice--living, sanctified, acceptable to God--your intelligent service;

2And be not conformed to this world: but be reformed in the newness of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and the acceptable and the perfect will of God.

2and be not conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, for your proving what <FI>is<Fi> the will of God--the good, and acceptable, and perfect.

3For I say, by the grace that is given me, to all that are among you, not to be more wise than it behoveth to be wise, but to be wise unto sobriety and according as God hath divided to every one the measure of faith.

3For I say, through the grace that was given to me, to every one who is among you, not to think above what it behoveth to think; but to think so as to think wisely, as to each God did deal a measure of faith,

4For as in one body we have many members, but all the members have not the same office:

4for as in one body we have many members, and all the members have not the same office,

5So we, being many, are one body in Christ; and every one members one of another:

5so we, the many, one body are in Christ, and members each one of one another.

6And having different gifts, according to the grace that is given us, either prophecy, to be used according to the rule of faith;

6And having gifts, different according to the grace that was given to us; whether prophecy--`According to the proportion of faith!'

7Or ministry, in ministering; or he that teacheth, in doctrine;

7or ministration--`In the ministration!' or he who is teaching--`In the teaching!'

8He that exhorteth, in exhorting; he that giveth, with simplicity; he that ruleth, with carefulness; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

8or he who is exhorting--`In the exhortation!' he who is sharing--`In simplicity!' he who is leading--`In diligence?' he who is doing kindness--`In cheerfulness.'

9Let love be without dissimulation. Hating that which is evil, cleaving to that which is good,

9The love unfeigned: abhorring the evil; cleaving to the good;

10Loving one another with the charity of brotherhood: with honour preventing one another.

10in the love of brethren, to one another kindly affectioned: in the honour going before one another;

11In carefulness not slothful. In spirit fervent. Serving the Lord.

11in the diligence not slothful; in the spirit fervent; the Lord serving;

12Rejoicing in hope. Patient in tribulation. Instant in prayer.

12in the hope rejoicing; in the tribulation enduring; in the prayer persevering;

13Communicating to the necessities of the saints. Pursuing hospitality.

13to the necessities of the saints communicating; the hospitality pursuing.

14Bless them that persecute you: bless, and curse not.

14Bless those persecuting you; bless, and curse not;

15Rejoice with them that rejoice: weep with them that weep.

15to rejoice with the rejoicing, and to weep with the weeping,

16Being of one mind one towards another. Not minding high things, but consenting to the humble. Be not wise in your own conceits.

16of the same mind one toward another, not minding the high things, but with the lowly going along; become not wise in your own conceit;

17To no man rendering evil for evil. Providing good things, not only in the sight of God but also in the sight of all men.

17giving back to no one evil for evil; providing right things before all men.

18If it be possible, as much as is in you, have peace with all men.

18If possible--so far as in you--with all men being in peace;

19Revenge not yourselves, my dearly beloved; but give place unto wrath, for it is written: Revenge is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord.

19not avenging yourselves, beloved, but give place to the wrath, for it hath been written, `Vengeance <FI>is<Fi> Mine,

20But if the enemy be hungry, give him to eat; if he thirst, give him to drink. For, doing this, thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head.

20I will recompense again, saith the Lord;' if, then, thine enemy doth hunger, feed him; if he doth thirst, give him drink; for this doing, coals of fire thou shalt heap upon his head;

21Be not overcome by evil: but overcome evil by good.

21Be not overcome by the evil, but overcome, in the good, the evil.
