What Revelation 2:15 means
Alongside Balaam-like error, some in Pergamum also adhere to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. Though details are sparse, the pairing with verse 14 implies a similar push toward compromise—blurring lines between loyalty to Christ and participation in pagan practices. Jesus does not tolerate doctrines that make sin seem acceptable. The issue is not cultural accommodation but covenant faithfulness. He distinguishes the faithful who held fast His name from those inside who urged permissiveness. The church must choose whom to heed, for Christ will address this mixture decisively if left uncorrected.

Context
This brief verse completes the identification of error introduced in verse 14. It sets up the urgent call to repent in verse 16 and heightens the seriousness of the situation: multiple streams of corrupt teaching are present. The flow moves from diagnosis (verses 14–15) to remedy and warning (verse 16), followed by a promise that nourishes hope for the overcomer (verse 17).
v.14But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there some that hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication.
v.15This passage
v.16Repent therefore; or else I come to thee quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of my mouth.
