What Revelation 19:13 means

He wears a garment sprinkled with blood, and His name is called “The Word of God.” The blood signifies that victory comes through sacrifice and judgment—He is the Lamb who shed His own blood and the King who treads the winepress. As the Word of God, He embodies and executes God’s self-revelation; His speech is God’s action. He does not merely carry a message—He is the message in person, the authoritative revelation and agent of God’s will. Judgment and salvation converge in Him. The one who speaks for God is also the one whose blood secures a people, and whose coming enforces God’s holy verdict on rebellion.

Context

After the stress on the Rider’s authority and mystery in verse 12, verse 13 discloses His identity and mission more fully. The title “The Word of God” connects His person to God’s decisive self-expression, while the blood-stained garment foreshadows the imminent judgment imagery. This sets the stage for His followers’ appearance (verse 14) and the description of the sword from His mouth and the iron rule (verse 15). The narrative is moving from who He is to what He does, culminating in His royal title in verse 16 and the confrontation with the gathered enemies (verses 19–21).

v.12And his eyes are a flame of fire, and upon his head are many diadems; and he hath a name written which no one knoweth but he himself.

v.13This passage

v.14And the armies which are in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and pure.
