1And I saw, and behold, the Lamb standing on the mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty and four thousand, having his name, and the name of his Father, written on their foreheads.

1Then I looked, and there was the Lamb standing on Mount Zion. With him were 144,000 people who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.

2And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and the voice which I heardwasasthe voiceof harpers harping with their harps:

2I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of a massive waterfall and the crash of loud thunder. The sound I heard was also like musicians playing their harps.

3and they sing as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four living creatures and the elders: and no man could learn the song save the hundred and forty and four thousand, even they that had been purchased out of the earth.

3They sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.

4These are they that were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they that follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were purchased from among men, to be the firstfruits unto God and unto the Lamb.

4These are the ones who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among humanity as the first prize offered to God and to the Lamb.

5And in their mouth was found no lie: they are without blemish.

5No lie was ever found in their mouths; they are blameless.

6And I saw another angel flying in mid heaven, having eternal good tidings to proclaim unto them that dwell on the earth, and unto every nation and tribe and tongue and people;

6Then I saw another angel flying high in the sky. He had the eternal Good News to announce to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language, and people.

7and he saith with a great voice, Fear God, and give him glory; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made the heaven and the earth and sea and fountains of waters.

7He shouted, 'Fear God and give him glory, because the time of his judgment has arrived. Worship the one who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the springs of water!'

8And another, a second angel, followed, saying, Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, that hath made all the nations to drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

8A second angel followed, saying, 'She has fallen! Babylon the Great has fallen! She made all the nations drink the wine of her passionate immorality.'

9And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a great voice, If any man worshippeth the beast and his image, and receiveth a mark on his forehead, or upon his hand,

9A third angel followed them, shouting, 'If anyone worships the beast and his statue and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand,

10he also shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is prepared unmixed in the cup of his anger; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

10that person will also drink the wine of God’s fury, poured undiluted into the cup of his anger. They will be tortured with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.

11and the smoke of their torment goeth up for ever and ever; and they have no rest day and night, they that worship the beast and his image, and whoso receiveth the mark of his name.

11The smoke of their torture rises forever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his statue, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name.'

12Here is the patience of the saints, they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

12This calls for God’s holy people to endure with patience—those who obey God’s commands and stay faithful to Jesus.

13And I heard a voice from heaven saying, Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; for their works follow with them.

13Then I heard a voice from heaven say, 'Write this: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on.' 'Yes,' says the Spirit, 'they will rest from their hard work, for the things they have done will follow them.'

14And I saw, and behold, a white cloud; and on the cloudI sawone sitting like unto a son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

14Then I looked and saw a white cloud. Sitting on the cloud was someone like the Son of Man. He wore a gold crown on his head and held a sharp sickle in his hand.

15And another angel came out from the temple, crying with a great voice to him that sat on the cloud, Send forth thy sickle, and reap: for the hour to reap is come; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.

15Another angel came out of the temple and shouted to the one sitting on the cloud, 'Start swinging your sickle and gather the harvest! The time to reap has come, because the earth’s harvest is fully ripe.'

16And he that sat on the cloud cast his sickle upon the earth; and the earth was reaped.

16So the one sitting on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.

17And another angel came out from the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.

17Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he also had a sharp sickle.

18And another angel came out from the altar, he that hath power over fire; and he called with a great voice to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Send forth thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.

18Still another angel, who has authority over fire, came from the altar. He called out loudly to the angel with the sharp sickle, 'Swing your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth’s vine, because its grapes are ripe.'

19And the angel cast his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vintage of the earth, and cast it into the winepress, the great winepress, of the wrath of God.

19So the angel swung his sickle across the earth, gathered the grapes, and threw them into the great winepress of God’s anger.

20And the winepress was trodden without the city, and there came out blood from the winepress, even unto the bridles of the horses, as far as a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

20The winepress was trampled outside the city. Blood flowed out of the winepress as high as a horse’s bridle for a distance of about 180 miles.
