1Unto the end, for the winepresses, a psalm for Asaph himself.

1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that sittest [between] the cherubim, shine forth.

1To the Overseer. --`On the Lilies.' A testimony of Asaph. --A Psalm. Shepherd of Israel, give ear, Leading Joseph as a flock, Inhabiting the cherubs--shine forth,

2Rejoice to God our helper: sing aloud to the God of Jacob.

2 Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up thy strength, and come to our deliverance.

2Before Ephraim, and Benjamin, and Manasseh, Wake up Thy might, and come for our salvation.

3Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel: the pleasant psaltery with the harp.

3 OGod, restore us; and cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.

3O God, cause us to turn back, And cause Thy face to shine, and we are saved.

4Blow up the trumpet on the new moon, on the noted day of your solemnity.

4 Jehovah,God of hosts, how long will thine anger smoke against the prayer of thy people?

4Jehovah, God of Hosts, till when? Thou hast burned against the prayer of Thy people.

5For it is a commandment in Israel, and a judgment to the God of Jacob.

5 Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears to drink in large measure:

5Thou hast caused them to eat bread of tears, And causest them to drink With tears a third time.

6He ordained it for a testimony in Joseph, when he came out of the land of Egypt: he heard a tongue which he knew not.

6 Thou hast made us a strife unto our neighbours, and our enemies mock among themselves.

6Thou makest us a strife to our neighbours, And our enemies mock at it.

7He removed his back from the burdens: his hands had served in baskets.

7 Restore us, OGod of hosts; and cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.

7God of Hosts, turn us back, And cause Thy face to shine, and we are saved.

8Thou calledst upon me in affliction, and I delivered thee: I heard thee in the secret place of tempest: I proved thee at the waters of contradiction.

8 Thou broughtest a vine out of Egypt; thou didst cast out the nations, and plant it:

8A vine out of Egypt Thou dost bring, Thou dost cast out nations, and plantest it.

9Hear, O my people, and I will testify to thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken to me,

9 Thou preparedst space before it, and it took deep root, and filled the land;

9Thou hast looked before it, and dost root it, And it filleth the land,

10there shall be no new god in thee: neither shalt thou adore a strange god.

10 The mountains were covered with its shadow, and the branches thereof were [like] cedars ofGod;

10Covered have been hills <FI>with<Fi> its shadow, And its boughs <FI>are<Fi> cedars of God.

11For I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

11 It sent out its boughs unto the sea, and its shoots unto the river.

11It sendeth forth its branches unto the sea, And unto the river its sucklings.

12But my people heard not my voice: and Israel hearkened not to me.

12 Why hast thou broken down its fences, so that all who pass by the way do pluck it?

12Why hast Thou broken down its hedges, And all passing by the way have plucked it?

13So I let them go according to the desires of their heart: they shall walk in their own inventions.

13 The boar out of the forest doth waste it, and the beast of the field doth feed off it.

13A boar out of the forest doth waste it, And a wild beast of the fields consumeth it.

14If my people had heard me: if Israel had walked in my ways:

14 OGod of hosts, return, we beseech thee; look down from the heavens, and behold, and visit this vine;

14God of Hosts, turn back, we beseech Thee, Look from heaven, and see, and inspect this vine,

15I should soon have humbled their enemies, and laid my hand on them that troubled them.

15 Even the stock which thy right hand hath planted, and the young plant thou madest strong for thyself.

15And the root that Thy right hand planted, And the branch Thou madest strong for Thee,

16The enemies of the Lord have lied to him: and their time shall be for ever.

16 It is burned with fire, it is cut down; they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

16Burnt with fire--cut down, From the rebuke of Thy face they perish.

17And he fed them with the fat of wheat, and filled them with honey out of the rock.

17 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou hast made strong for thyself.

17Let Thy hand be on the man of Thy right hand, On the son of man Thou hast strengthened for Thyself.

18 So will we not go back from thee. Revive us, and we will call upon thy name.

18And we do not go back from Thee, Thou dost revive us, and in Thy name we call.
