Psalms 77

1I will cry unto God with my voice, Even unto God with my voice; and he will give ear unto me.

1I cry out loud to God; I cry out to God, and he will listen to me.

2In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: My hand was stretched out in the night, and slacked not; My soul refused to be comforted.

2When I was in deep trouble, I searched for the Lord. All night long I reached out my hands without getting tired, but my soul would not be comforted.

3I remember God, and am disquieted: I complain, and my spirit is overwhelmed. [Selah

3I think of God and I moan; I complain, and my spirit feels completely overwhelmed.

4Thou holdest mine eyes watching: I am so troubled that I cannot speak.

4You keep my eyes from closing in sleep; I am so upset that I cannot even speak.

5I have considered the days of old, The years of ancient times.

5I think about the days of long ago, the years that passed by in ancient times.

6I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart; And my spirit maketh diligent search.

6I remember my songs in the night; I think deeply within my heart, and my spirit searches for answers.

7Will the Lord cast off for ever? And will he be favorable no more?

7Will the Lord reject us forever? Will he never show us his favor again?

8Is his lovingkindness clean gone for ever? Doth his promise fail for evermore?

8Is his constant love gone forever? Has his promise failed for all time to come?

9Hath God forgotten to be gracious? Hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? [Selah

9Has God forgotten how to be kind? Has he shut off his compassion because of his anger?

10And I said, This is my infirmity; But I will rememberthe years of the right hand of the Most High.

10Then I said, 'This is what hurts me most: the thought that the Most High has stopped using his power to help us.'

11I will make mention of the deeds of Jehovah; For I will remember thy wonders of old.

11I will remember the things the LORD has done; I will remember the miracles you performed long ago.

12I will meditate also upon all thy work, And muse on thy doings.

12I will think about everything you have done and meditate on all your powerful acts.

13Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: Who is a great god like unto God?

13O God, your ways are holy; what god is as great as our God?

14Thou art the God that doest wonders: Thou hast made known thy strength among the peoples.

14You are the God who performs miracles; you showed your great power among the nations.

15Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph. [Selah

15With your strong arm you rescued your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.

16The waters saw thee, O God; The waters saw thee, they were afraid: The depths also trembled.

16The waters saw you, O God; the waters saw you and shivered with fear; even the deep oceans trembled.

17The clouds poured out water; The skies sent out a sound: Thine arrows also went abroad.

17The clouds poured down rain; the sky thundered, and your bolts of lightning flashed everywhere.

18The voice of thy thunder was in the whirlwind; The lightnings lightened the world: The earth trembled and shook.

18The sound of your thunder was in the whirlwind; your lightning lit up the world, and the earth shook and trembled.

19Thy way was in the sea, And thy paths in the great waters, And thy footsteps were not known.

19Your path went through the sea, and your way went through the mighty waters, though your footprints could not be seen.

20Thou leddest thy people like a flock, By the hand of Moses and Aaron.

20You led your people like a flock of sheep, using Moses and Aaron to guide them.
