1Unto the end, in praises, a psalm for Asaph: a canticle to the Assyrians.

1To the Overseer. --`Destroy not.' --A Psalm of Asaph. --A Song. We have given thanks to Thee, O God, We have given thanks, and near <FI>is<Fi> Thy name, They have recounted Thy wonders.

1 To you, O God, we give praise, to you we give praise: and those who give honour to your name make clear your works of power.

2In Judea God is known: his name is great in Israel.

2When I receive an appointment, I--I do judge uprightly.

2When the right time has come, I will be the judge in righteousness.

3And his place is in peace: and his abode in Sion:

3Melted is the earth and all its inhabitants, I--I have pondered its pillars. Selah.

3When the earth and all its people become feeble, I am the support of its pillars. (Selah.)

4There hath he broken the powers of bows, the shield, the sword, and the battle.

4I have said to the boastful, `Be not boastful,' And to the wicked, `Raise not up a horn.'

4I say to the men of pride, Let your pride be gone: and to the sinners, Let not your horn be lifted up.

5Thou enlightenest wonderfully from the everlasting hills.

5Raise not up on high your horn, (Ye speak with a stiff neck.)

5Let not your horn be lifted up: let no more words of pride come from your outstretched necks.

6All the foolish of heart were troubled. They have slept their sleep; and all the men of riches have found nothing in their hands.

6For not from the east, or from the west, Nor from the wilderness--<FI> is<Fi> elevation.

6For honour does not come from the east, or from the west, or uplifting from the south;

7At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, they have all slumbered that mounted on horseback.

7But God <FI>is<Fi> judge, This He maketh low--and this He lifteth up.

7But God is the judge, putting down one, and lifting up another.

8Thou art terrible, and who shall resist thee? from that time thy wrath.

8For a cup <FI>is<Fi> in the hand of Jehovah, And the wine hath foamed, It is full of mixture, and He poureth out of it, Only its dregs wring out, and drink, Do all the wicked of the earth,

8For in the hand of the Lord is a cup, and the wine is red; it is well mixed, overflowing from his hand: he will make all the sinners of the earth take of it, even to the last drop.

9Thou hast caused judgment to be heard from heaven: the earth trembled and was still,

9And I--I declare <FI>it<Fi> to the age, I sing praise to the God of Jacob.

9But I will ever be full of joy, making songs of praise to the God of Jacob.

10When God arose in judgment, to save all the meek of the earth.

10And all horns of the wicked I cut off, Exalted are the horns of the righteous!

10By him will all the horns of the sinners be cut off; but the horns of the upright will be lifted up.

11For the thought of man shall give praise to thee: and the remainders of the thought shall keep holiday to thee.
