1Unto the end, for them that shall be changed; for David.
1 LetGod arise, let his enemies be scattered, and let them that hate him flee before him.
1 Let God be seen, and let his haters be put to flight; let those who are against him be turned back before him.
2Save me, O God: for the waters are come in even unto my soul.
2 As smoke is driven, thou wilt drive them away; as wax melteth before the fire, the wicked shall perish at the presence ofGod.
2Let them be like smoke before the driving wind; as wax turning soft before the fire, so let them come to an end before the power of God.
3I stick fast in the mire of the deep and there is no sure standing. I am come into the depth of the sea, and a tempest hath overwhelmed me.
3 But the righteous shall rejoice: they shall exult beforeGod and be glad with joy.
3But let the upright be glad; let them have delight before God; let them be full of joy.
4I have laboured with crying; my jaws are become hoarse, my eyes have failed, whilst I hope in my God.
4 Sing untoGod, sing forth his name; cast up a way for him that rideth in the deserts: his name is Jah; and rejoice before him.
4Make songs to God, make songs of praise to his name; make a way for him who comes through the waste lands; his name is Jah; be glad before him.
5They are multiplied above the hairs of my head, who hate me without cause. My enemies are grown strong who have wrongfully persecuted me: then did I pay that which I took not away.
5 A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, isGod in his holy habitation.
5A father to those who have no father, a judge of the widows, is God in his holy place.
6O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my offences are not hidden from thee:
6 God maketh the solitary into families; those that were bound he bringeth out into prosperity: but the rebellious dwell in a parched [land].
6Those who are without friends, God puts in families; he makes free those who are in chains; but those who are turned away from him are given a dry land.
7Let not them be ashamed for me, who look for thee, O Lord, the Lord of hosts. Let them not be confounded on my account, who seek thee, O God of Israel.
7 OGod, when thou wentest forth before thy people, when thou didst march through the wilderness — (Selah) —
7O God, when you went out before your people, wandering through the waste land; (Selah.)
8Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.
8 The earth trembled, the heavens also dropped at the presence ofGod, yon Sinai, at the presence ofGod, theGod of Israel.
8The earth was shaking and the heavens were streaming, because God was present; even Sinai itself was moved before God, the God of Israel.
9I am become a stranger to my brethren, and an alien to the sons of my mother.
9 Thou, OGod, didst pour a plentiful rain upon thine inheritance, and when it was weary thou strengthenedst it.
9You, O God, did freely send the rain, giving strength to the weariness of your heritage.
10For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up: and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.
10 Thy flock hath dwelt therein: thou hast prepared in thy goodness, for the afflicted, OGod!
10Those whose resting-place was there, even the poor, were comforted by your good things, O God.
11And I covered my soul in fasting: and it was made a reproach to me.
11 The Lord gives the word: great the host of the publishers.
11The Lord gives the word; great is the number of the women who make it public.
12And I made haircloth my garment: and I became a byword to them.
12 Kings of armies flee; they flee, and she that tarrieth at home divideth the spoil.
12Kings of armies quickly go in flight: and the women in the houses make a division of their goods.
13They that sat in the gate spoke against me: and they that drank wine made me their song.
13 Though ye have lain among the sheepfolds, [ye shall be as] wings of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with green gold.
13Will you take your rest among the flocks? like the wings of a dove covered with silver, and its feathers with yellow gold.
14But as for me, my prayer is to thee, O Lord; for the time of thy good pleasure, O God. In the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.
14 When the Almighty scattered kings in it, it became snow-white as Zalmon.
14When the Most High put the kings to flight, it was as white as snow in Salmon.
15Draw me out of the mire, that I may not stick fast: deliver me from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.
15 [As] mount Bashan is the mount ofGod, a many-peaked mountain, [as] mount Bashan.
15A hill of God is the hill of Bashan; a hill with high tops is the hill of Bashan.
16Let not the tempest of water drown me, nor the deep water swallow me up: and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.
16 Why do ye look with envy, ye many-peaked mountains, upon the mount thatGod hath desired for his abode? yea, Jehovah will dwell [there] for ever.
16Why are you looking with envy, you high hills, on the hill desired by God as his resting-place? truly, God will make it his house for ever.
17Hear me, O Lord, for thy mercy is kind; look upon me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.
17 The chariots ofGod are twenty thousand, thousands upon thousands; the Lord is among them: it is a Sinai in holiness.
17The war-carriage of God is among Israel's thousands; the Lord has come from Sinai to the holy place.
18And turn not away thy face from thy servant: for I am in trouble, hear me speedily.
18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts in Man, and even [for] the rebellious, for the dwelling [there] of Jah Elohim.
18You have gone up on high, taking your prisoners with you; you have taken offerings from men; the Lord God has taken his place on the seat of his power.
19Attend to my soul, and deliver it: save me because of my enemies.
19 Blessed be the Lord: day by day doth he load us [with good], theGod who is our salvation. Selah.
19Praise be to the Lord, who is our support day by day, even the God of our salvation. (Selah.)
20Thou knowest my reproach, and my confusion, and my shame.
20 OurGod is theGod of salvation; and with Jehovah, the Lord, are the goings forth [even] from death.
20Our God is for us a God of salvation; his are the ways out of death.
21In thy sight are all they that afflict me; my heart hath expected reproach and misery. And I looked for one that would grieve together with me, but there was none: and for one that would comfort me, and I found none.
21 VerilyGod will smite the head of his enemies, the hairy scalp of him that goeth on still in his trespasses.
21The heads of the haters of God will be crushed; even the head of him who still goes on in his evil ways.
22And they gave me gall for my food, and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
22 The Lord said, I will bring again from Bashan, I will bring [them] again from the depth of the sea;
22The Lord said, I will make them come back from Bashan, and from the deep parts of the sea;
23Let their table become as a snare before them, and a recompense, and a stumblingblock.
23 That thou mayest dip thy foot in blood: the tongue of thy dogs has its portion from enemies.
23So that your foot may be red with blood, and the tongues of your dogs with the same.
24Let their eyes be darkened that they see not; and their back bend thou down always.
24 They have seen thy goings, OGod, the goings of myGod, my King, in the sanctuary.
24We see your going, O God: even the going of my God, my King, into the holy place.
25Pour out thy indignation upon them: and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.
25 The singers went before, the players on stringed instruments after, in the midst of maidens playing on tabrets.
25The makers of songs go before, the players of music come after, among the young girls playing on brass instruments.
26Let their habitation be made desolate: and let there be none to dwell in their tabernacles.
26 In the congregations bless yeGod, the Lord, — [ye] from the fountain of Israel.
26Give praise to God in the great meeting; even the Lord, you who come from the fountain of Israel.
27Because they have persecuted him whom thou hast smitten; and they have added to the grief of my wounds.
27 There is little Benjamin, their ruler; the princes of Judah, their company; the princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.
27There is little Benjamin ruling them, the chiefs of Judah and their army, the rulers of Zebulun and the rulers of Naphtali.
28Add thou iniquity upon their iniquity: and let them not come into thy justice.
28 ThyGod hath commanded thy strength: strengthen, OGod, that which thou hast wrought for us.
28O God, send out your strength; the strength, O God, with which you have done great things for us,
29Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; and with the just let them not be written.
29 Because of thy temple at Jerusalem shall kings bring presents unto thee.
29Out of your Temple in Jerusalem.
30But I am poor and sorrowful: thy salvation, O God, hath set me up.
30 Rebuke the beast of the reeds, the assembly of the strong, with the calves of the peoples: [every one] submitteth himself with pieces of silver. Scatter the peoples that delight in war.
30Say sharp words to the beast among the water-plants, the band of strong ones, with the lords of the peoples, put an end to the people whose delight is in war.
31I will praise the name of God with a canticle: and I will magnify him with praise.
31 Great ones shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall quickly stretch out her hands untoGod.
31Kings will give you offerings, they will come out of Egypt; from Pathros will come offerings of silver; Ethiopia will be stretching out her hands to God.
32And it shall please God better than a young calf, that bringeth forth horns and hoofs.
32 Ye kingdoms of the earth, sing untoGod; sing psalms of the Lord, (Selah,)
32Make songs to God, you kingdoms of the earth; O make songs of praise to the Lord; (Selah.)
33Let the poor see and rejoice: seek ye God, and your soul shall live.
33 Of him that rideth upon the heavens, the heavens which are of old: lo, he uttereth his voice, a mighty voice.
33To him who goes or the clouds of heaven, the heaven which was from earliest times; he sends out his voice of power.
34For the Lord hath heard the poor: and hath not despised his prisoners.
34 Ascribe ye strength untoGod: his excellency is over Israel, and his strength is in the clouds.
34Make clear that strength is God's: he is lifted up over Israel, and his power is in the clouds.
35Let the heavens and the earth praise him; the sea, and every thing that creepeth therein.
35 Terrible art thou, OGod, out of thy sanctuaries, — theGod of Israel! He it is that giveth strength and might unto the people. Blessed beGod!
35O God, you are to be feared in your holy place: the God of Israel gives strength and power to his people. Praise be to God.
