1Make a joyful noise unto God, all the earth:

1Shout with joy to God, everyone on earth!

2Sing forth the glory of his name: Make his praise glorious.

2Sing about the glory of his name; make his praise wonderful and famous.

3Say unto God, How terrible are thy works! Through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.

3Say to God, 'How awesome are your works! Your power is so great that even your enemies bow down to you.'

4All the earth shall worship thee, And shall sing unto thee; They shall sing to thy name. [Selah

4Everyone on earth will worship you; they will sing to you and praise your name.

5Come, and see the works of God; He is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.

5Come and see what God has done; his actions for people are truly amazing.

6He turned the sea into dry land; They went through the river on foot: There did we rejoice in him.

6He turned the sea into dry land; our ancestors crossed the river on foot. We celebrated him there!

7He ruleth by his might for ever; His eyes observe the nations: Let not the rebellious exalt themselves. [Selah

7He rules forever by his power; he watches every nation. Rebels should not try to challenge him.

8Oh bless our God, ye peoples, And make the voice of his praise to be heard;

8Praise our God, all you nations; let the sound of his praise be heard everywhere.

9Who holdeth our soul in life, And suffereth not our feet to be moved.

9He is the one who keeps us alive and does not let us stumble or fall.

10For thou, O God, hast proved us: Thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.

10For you, O God, have tested us; you have refined us like silver is purified by fire.

11Thou broughtest us into the net; Thou layedst a sore burden upon our loins.

11You led us into a trap and put heavy burdens on our backs.

12Thou didst cause men to ride over our heads; We went through fire and through water; But thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.

12You let people run over us; we went through fire and through floods. But you brought us out to a place of plenty.

13I will come into thy house with burnt-offerings; I will pay thee my vows,

13I will come to your Temple with burnt offerings; I will give you everything I promised.

14Which my lips uttered, And my mouth spake, when I was in distress.

14I told you I would do these things when I was in deep trouble.

15I will offer unto thee burnt-offerings of fatlings, With the incense of rams; I will offer bullocks with goats. [Selah

15I will bring you the best fat animals as sacrifices, with the smoke of rams; I will offer bulls and goats.

16Come, and hear, all ye that fear God, And I will declare what he hath done for my soul.

16Come and listen, all you who respect God; let me tell you what he has done for me.

17I cried unto him with my mouth, And he was extolled with my tongue.

17I cried out to him for help, and I praised him with my voice.

18If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear:

18If I had held onto sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened to me.

19But verily God hath heard; He hath attended to the voice of my prayer.

19But God truly did listen; he heard the sound of my prayer.

20Blessed be God, Who hath not turned away my prayer, Nor his lovingkindness from me.

20Praise God, because he did not ignore my prayer or withhold his faithful love from me.
