1Unto the end, in hymns, for David.
1 God, you have put us away from you, you have sent us in all directions, you have been angry; O be turned to us again.
1To the Overseer. --`Concerning the Lily of Testimony,' a secret treasure of David, to teach, in his striving with Aram-Naharaim, and with Aram-Zobah, and Joab turneth back and smiteth Edom in the valley of Salt--twelve thousand. O God, Thou hadst cast us off, Thou hadst broken us--hadst been angry! --Thou dost turn back to us.
2Hear, O God, my supplication: be attentive to my prayer.
2By the power of your hand the earth is shaking and broken; make it strong again, for it is moved.
2Thou hast caused the land to tremble, Thou hast broken it, Heal its breaches, for it hath moved.
3To thee have I cried from the ends of the earth: when my heart was in anguish, thou hast exalted me on a rock. Thou hast conducted me;
3You have made the people see hard times; you have given us the wine of shaking for our drink.
3Thou hast shewn Thy people a hard thing, Thou hast caused us to drink wine of trembling.
4For thou hast been my hope; a tower of strength against the face of the enemy.
4Give a safe place to those who have fear of you, where they may go in flight from before the bow. (Selah.)
4Thou hast given to those fearing thee an ensign. To be lifted up as an ensign Because of truth. Selah.
5In thy tabernacle I shall dwell for ever: I shall be protected under the covert of thy wings.
5So that your loved ones may be made safe, let your right hand be my salvation, and give me an answer.
5That Thy beloved ones may be drawn out, Save <FI>with<Fi> Thy right hand, and answer us.
6For thou, my God, hast heard my prayer: thou hast given an inheritance to them that fear thy name.
6God has said in his holy place, I will be glad: I will make a division of Shechem, and the valley of Succoth will be measured out.
6God hath spoken in His holiness: I exult--I apportion Shechem, And the valley of Succoth I measure,
7Thou wilt add days to the days of the king: his years even to generation and generation.
7Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; and Ephraim is the strength of my head; Judah is my law-giver;
7Mine <FI>is<Fi> Gilead, and mine <FI>is<Fi> Manasseh, And Ephraim <FI>is<Fi> the strength of my head, Judah <FI>is<Fi> my lawgiver,
8He abideth for ever in the sight of God: his mercy and truth who shall search?
8Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I put out my shoe; over Philistia will a glad cry be sounded.
8Moab <FI>is<Fi> my pot for washing, over Edom I cast my shoe, Shout, concerning me, O Philistia.
9So will I sing a psalm to thy name for ever and ever: that I may pay my vows from day to day.
9Who will take me into the strong town? who will be my guide into Edom?
9Who doth bring me <FI>to<Fi> a city of bulwarks? Who hath led me unto Edom?
10(not in this translation)
10Have not you put us away, O God? and you have not gone out with our armies.
10Is it not Thou, O God? hast Thou cast us off? And dost Thou not go forth, O God, with our hosts!
