1Unto the end, for them that shall be changed, for the inscription of a title, to David himself, for doctrine,

1 Deliver me from mine enemies, O myGod; secure me on high from them that rise up against me.

2When he set fire to Mesopotamia of Syria and Sobal: and Joab returned and slew of Edom, in the vale of the saltpits, twelve thousand men.

2 Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from men of blood.

3O God, thou hast cast us off, and hast destroyed us; thou hast been angry, and hast had mercy on us.

3 For behold, they lie in wait for my soul; strong ones are gathered against me: not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O Jehovah.

4Thou hast moved the earth, and hast troubled it: heal thou the breaches thereof, for it has been moved.

4 They run and prepare themselves without [my] fault: awake to meet me, and behold.

5Thou hast shewn thy people hard things; thou hast made us drink the wine of sorrow.

5 Yea, do thou, Jehovah, theGod of hosts, theGod of Israel, arise to visit all the nations: be not gracious to any plotters of iniquity. Selah.

6Thou hast given a warning to them that fear thee: that they may flee from before the bow: That thy beloved may be delivered.

7Save me with thy right hand, and hear me.

7 Behold, they belch out with their mouth; swords are in their lips: for who [say they] doth hear?

8God hath spoken in his holy place: I will rejoice, and I will divide Sichem; and will mete out the vale of tabernacles.

8 But thou, Jehovah, wilt laugh at them; thou wilt have all the nations in derision.

9Galaad is mine, and Manasses is mine: and Ephraim is the strength of my head. Juda is my king:

9 Their strength! ...I will take heed to thee; forGod is my high fortress.

10Moab is the pot of my hope. Into Edom will I stretch out my shoe: to me the foreigners are made subject.

10 God, whose loving-kindness will come to meet me, —God shall let me see [my desire] upon mine enemies.

11Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?

11 Slay them not, lest my people forget; by thy power make them wander, and bring them down, O Lord, our shield.

12Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off? and wilt not thou, O God, go out with our armies?

12 [Because of] the sin of their mouth, the word of their lips, let them even be taken in their pride; and because of cursing and lying which they speak.

13Give us help from trouble: for vain is the salvation of man.

13 Make an end in wrath, make an end, that they may be no more; that they may know thatGod ruleth in Jacob, unto the ends of the earth. Selah.

14Through God we shall do mightily: and he shall bring to nothing them that afflict us.

14 And in the evening they shall return, they shall howl like a dog, and go round about the city.
