1Unto the end, destroy not, for David, for an inscription of a title, when he fled from Saul into the cave.

1To the Overseer. --`On the Dumb Dove far off.' --A secret treasure of David, in the Philistines' taking hold of him in Gath. Favour me, O God, for man swallowed me up, All the day fighting he oppresseth me,

1 Have mercy on me, O God, for man is attempting my destruction; every day he makes cruel attacks against me.

2Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me: for my soul trusteth in thee. And in the shadow of thy wings will I hope, until iniquity pass away.

2Mine enemies have swallowed up all the day, For many <FI>are<Fi> fighting against me, O most High,

2My haters are ever ready to put an end to me; great numbers are lifting themselves up against me.

3I will cry to God the most high; to God who hath done good to me.

3The day I am afraid I am confident toward Thee.

3In the time of my fear, I will have faith in you.

4He hath sent from heaven and delivered me: he hath made them a reproach that trod upon me. God hath sent his mercy and his truth,

4In God I praise His word, in God I have trusted, I fear not what flesh doth to me.

4In God will I give praise to his word; in God have I put my hope; I will have no fear of what flesh may do to me.

5And he hath delivered my soul from the midst of the young lions. I slept troubled. The sons of men, whose teeth are weapons and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

5All the day they wrest my words, Concerning me all their thoughts <FI>are<Fi> for evil,

5Every day they make wrong use of my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.

6Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens, and thy glory above all the earth.

6They assemble, they hide, they watch my heels, When they have expected my soul.

6They come together, they are waiting in secret places, they take note of my steps, they are waiting for my soul.

7They prepared a snare for my feet; and they bowed down my soul. They dug a pit before my face, and they are fallen into it.

7By iniquity they escape, In anger the peoples put down, O God.

7By evil-doing they will not get free from punishment. In wrath, O God, let the peoples be made low.

8My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready: I will sing, and rehearse a psalm.

8My wandering Thou hast counted, Thou--place Thou my tear in Thy bottle, Are they not in Thy book?

8You have seen my wanderings; put the drops from my eyes into your bottle; are they not in your record?

9Arise, O my glory, arise psaltery and harp: I will arise early.

9Then turn back do mine enemies in the day I call. This I have known, that God <FI>is<Fi> for me.

9When I send up my cry to you, my haters will be turned back; I am certain of this, for God is with me.

10I will give praise to thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing a psalm to thee among the nations.

10In God I praise the word, In Jehovah I praise the word.

10In God will I give praise to his word; in the Lord will I give praise to his word.

11For thy mercy is magnified even to the heavens: and thy truth unto the clouds.

11In God I trusted, I fear not what man doth to me,

11In God have I put my hope, I will have no fear of what man may do to me.

12Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth.

12On me, O God, <FI>are<Fi> Thy vows, I repay thank-offerings to Thee.

12I keep the memory of my debt to you, O God; I will give you the offerings of praise.

13(not in this translation)

13For Thou hast delivered my soul from death, Dost Thou not my feet from falling? To walk habitually before God in the light of the living!

13Because you have taken my soul from the power of death; and kept my feet from falling, so that I may be walking before God in the light of life.
