1Unto the end, in verses, understanding for David.

1 OGod, by thy name save me, and by thy strength do me justice.

1To the Overseer with stringed instruments. --An instruction, by David, in the coming in of the Ziphim, and they say to Saul, `Is not David hiding himself with us?' O God, by Thy name save me, and by Thy might judge me.

2Hear, O God, my prayer, and despise not my supplication:

2 OGod, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth.

2O God, hear my prayer, Give ear to the sayings of my mouth,

3Be attentive to me and hear me. I am grieved in my exercise; and am troubled,

3 For strangers are risen up against me, and the violent seek after my life: they have not setGod before them. Selah.

3For strangers have risen up against me And terrible ones have sought my soul, They have not set God before them. Selah.

4At the voice of the enemy, and at the tribulation of the sinner. For they have cast iniquities upon me: and in wrath they were troublesome to me.

4 Behold,God is my helper; the Lord is among them that uphold my soul.

4Lo, God <FI>is<Fi> a helper to me, The Lord <FI>is<Fi> with those supporting my soul,

5My heart is troubled within me: and the fear of death is fallen upon me.

5 He will requite evil to mine enemies: in thy truth cut them off.

5Turn back doth the evil thing to mine enemies, In Thy truth cut them off.

6Fear and trembling are come upon me: and darkness hath covered me.

6 I will freely sacrifice unto thee; I will praise thy name, O Jehovah, because it is good.

6With a free will-offering I sacrifice to Thee, I thank Thy name, O Jehovah, for <FI>it is<Fi> good,

7And I said: Who will give me wings like a dove, and I will fly and be at rest?

7 For he hath delivered me out of all trouble; and mine eye hath seen [its desire] upon mine enemies.

7For, from all adversity He delivered me, And on mine enemies hath mine eye looked!

8Lo, I have gone far off flying away; and I abode in the wilderness.

9I waited for him that hath saved me from pusillanimity of spirit, and a storm.

10Cast down, O Lord, and divide their tongues; for I have seen iniquity and contradiction in the city.

11Day and night shall iniquity surround it upon its walls: and in the midst thereof are labour,

13For if my enemy had reviled me, I would verily have borne with it. And if he that hated me had spoken great things against me, I would perhaps have hidden my self from him.

15Who didst take sweetmeats together with me: in the house of God we walked with consent.

16Let death come upon them, and let them go down alive into hell. For there is wickedness in their dwellings: in the midst of them.

18Evening and morning, and at noon I will speak and declare: and he shall hear my voice.

19He shall redeem my soul in peace from them that draw near to me: for among many they were with me.
