1The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity; There is none that doeth good.

1Foolish people say to themselves, 'There is no God.' They are corrupt and their actions are horrible; not one of them does what is right.

2God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there were any that did understand, That did seek after God.

2God looks down from heaven at all of humanity to see if anyone is wise or if anyone is looking for God.

3Every one of them is gone back; they are together become filthy; There is none that doeth good, no, not one.

3But everyone has turned away; they have all become rotten. No one does what is good—not even one person.

4Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And call not upon God?

4Do these herbal evildoers have no sense? They consume my people as if they were eating bread, and they never bother to pray to God.

5There were they in great fear, where no fear was; For God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: Thou hast put them to shame, because God hath rejected them.

5They will be overcome with terror when there is nothing to fear. God will scatter the bones of those who attack you; you will humiliate them because God has rejected them.

6Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Then shall Jacob rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

6Oh, how I wish salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, the descendants of Jacob will shout for joy and Israel will be glad.
