1 Why boastest thou thyself in evil, thou mighty man? The loving-kindness ofGod [abideth] continually.
1Unto the end, for Maeleth, understandings to David. The fool said in his heart: There is no God.
1 Why do you take pride in wrongdoing, lifting yourself up against the upright man all the day?
2 Thy tongue deviseth mischievous things, like a sharp razor, practising deceit.
2They are corrupted, and become abominable in iniquities: there is none that doth good.
2Purposing destruction, using deceit; your tongue is like a sharp blade.
3 Thou hast loved evil rather than good, lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
3God looked down from heaven on the children of men: to see if there were any that did understand, or did seek God.
3You have more love for evil than for good, for deceit than for works of righteousness. (Selah.)
4 Thou hast loved all devouring words, O deceitful tongue!
4All have gone aside, they are become unprofitable together, there is none that doth good, no not one.
4Destruction is in all your words, O false tongue.
5 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever; he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of [thy] tent, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.
5Shall not all the workers of iniquity know, who eat up my people as they eat bread?
5But God will put an end to you for ever; driving you out from your tent, uprooting you from the land of the living. (Selah.)
6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, [saying,]
6They have not called upon God: there have they trembled for fear, where there was no fear. For God hath scattered the bones of them that please men: they have been confounded, because God hath despised them.
6The upright will see it with fear, and will say, laughing at you:
7 Behold the man that made notGod his strength, but put confidence in the abundance of his riches, [and] strengthened himself in his avarice.
7Who will give out of Sion the salvation of Israel? when God shall bring back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
7See, this is the man who did not make God his strength, but had faith in his goods and his property, and made himself strong in his wealth.
