1The Mighty One, God, Jehovah, hath spoken, And called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.

1The Mighty One, God, Yahweh, has spoken; he summons the entire earth from where the sun rises to where it sets.

2Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined forth.

2From Zion, the absolute peak of beauty, God shines out in glory.

3Our God cometh, and doth not keep silence: A fire devoureth before him, And it is very tempestuous round about him.

3Our God is coming and will not stay silent; a consuming fire spreads out before him, and a powerful storm rages all around him.

4He calleth to the heavens above, And to the earth, that he may judge his people:

4He calls out to the heavens above and to the earth below to witness the judgment of his people.

5Gather my saints together unto me, Those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.

5He says, 'Bring my faithful people together to me—those who made a covenant with me by offering sacrifices.'

6And the heavens shall declare his righteousness; For God is judge himself. [Selah

6The heavens announce his justice, because God himself is the judge.

7Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify unto thee: I am God, even thy God.

7'Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, O Israel: I am God, your God.'

8I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices; And thy burnt-offerings are continually before me.

8'I am not criticizing you for your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you regularly bring to me.'

9I will take no bullock out of thy house, Nor he-goats out of thy folds.

9'I do not need to take a bull from your barns or goats from your pens.'

10For every beast of the forest is mine, And the cattle upon a thousand hills.

10'For every animal in the forest is mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills.'

11I know all the birds of the mountains; And the wild beasts of the field are mine.

11'I know every bird in the mountains, and every creature moving in the fields belongs to me.'

12If I were hungry, I would not tell thee; For the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.

12'If I were hungry, I would not tell you, because the whole world and everything in it is mine.'

13Will I eat the flesh of bulls, Or drink the blood of goats?

13'Do I eat the meat of bulls or drink the blood of goats?'

14Offer unto God the sacrifice of thanksgiving; And pay thy vows unto the Most High;

14'Give God a sacrifice of thanks instead, and keep the promises you made to the Most High.'

15And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

15'Call out to me when you are in trouble; I will rescue you, and you will honor me.'

16But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, And that thou hast taken my covenant in thy mouth,

16But God says to the wicked: 'What right do you have to recite my laws or talk about my covenant?'

17Seeing that thou hatest instruction, And castest my words behind thee?

17'For you hate to be corrected, and you toss my words behind your back as if they were nothing.'

18When thou sawest a thief, thou consentedst with him, And hast been partaker with adulterers.

18'When you see a thief, you join him, and you spend your time with people who commit adultery.'

19Thou givest thy mouth to evil, And thy tongue frameth deceit.

19'You use your mouth for evil and your tongue to spread lies.'

20Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; Thou slanderest thine own mother’s son.

20'You sit and talk against your own brother; you slander your own mother’s son.'

21These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; Thou thoughtest that I was altogether such a one as thyself: ButI will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.

21'While you did these things, I remained silent, so you thought I was just like you; but now I will punish you and list your sins right in front of your eyes.'

22Now consider this, ye that forget God, Lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver:

22'Think about this, you who forget God, or I will tear you apart and no one will be there to save you.'

23Whoso offereth the sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifieth me; And to him that ordereth his way aright Will I show the salvation of God.

23'The person who offers a sacrifice of thanks honors me; and to the one who stays on the right path, I will show the salvation of God.'
