1My heart overfloweth with a goodly matter; I speak the things which I have made touching the king: My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

1My heart is flooded with a beautiful theme; I am reciting my poem for the king. My tongue is like the pen of a skilled writer.

2Thou art fairer than the children of men; Grace is poured into thy lips: Therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.

2You are the most handsome of all men; grace flows from your lips. That is why God has blessed you forever.

3Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O mighty one, Thy glory and thy majesty.

3Put your sword on your side, you mighty warrior; clothe yourself with your glory and majesty.

4And in thy majesty ride on prosperously, Because of truth and meekness and righteousness: And thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.

4In your majesty, ride out to victory for the sake of truth, humility, and justice. Let your right hand perform awesome deeds.

5Thine arrows are sharp; The peoples fall under thee; They arein the heart of the king’s enemies.

5Your arrows are sharp, piercing the hearts of the king's enemies; nations fall beneath your feet.

6Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: A sceptre of equity is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

6Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever; a scepter of justice is the scepter of your kingdom.

7Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated wickedness: Therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee With the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

7You have loved what is right and hated what is evil. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy more than any of your companions.

8All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia; Out of ivory palaces stringed instruments have made thee glad.

8All your robes smell of myrrh, aloes, and cassia; music from instruments in palaces of ivory makes you glad.

9Kings’ daughters are among thy honorable women: At thy right hand doth stand the queen in gold of Ophir.

9Princesses are among the women of your court; at your right hand stands the queen, wearing gold from Ophir.

10Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; Forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house:

10Listen, daughter, pay attention and hear me: Forget your own people and your father’s family.

11So will the king desire thy beauty; For he is thy lord; and reverence thou him.

11Then the king will be delighted by your beauty; since he is your lord, show him respect.

12And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; The rich among the people shall entreat thy favor.

12The people of Tyre will come with a gift; the wealthiest of people will seek your favor.

13The king’s daughter within the palace is all glorious: Her clothing is inwrought with gold.

13The princess is dressed in splendor inside the palace; her clothing is woven with gold.

14She shall be led unto the king in broidered work: The virgins her companions that follow her Shall be brought unto thee.

14She is led to the king in her embroidered robes; her bridesmaids follow her and are brought to you.

15With gladness and rejoicing shall they be led: They shall enter into the king’s palace.

15They are led in with joy and happiness; they enter the king’s palace.

16Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, Whom thou shalt make princes in all the earth.

16Your sons will take the place of your ancestors; you will make them princes throughout the land.

17I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: Therefore shall the peoples give thee thanks for ever and ever.

17I will make your name famous for all generations to come; therefore the nations will praise you forever and ever.
