1 OGod, with our ears have we heard, our fathers have told us, the work thou wroughtest in their days, in the days of old:
1We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us, What work thou didst in their days, In the days of old.
1Unto the end, for them that shall be changed, for the sons of Core, for understanding. A canticle for the Beloved.
2 Thou, by thy hand, didst dispossess the nations, but them thou didst plant; thou didst afflict the peoples, but them didst thou cause to spread out.
2Thou didst drive out the nations with thy hand; But them thou didst plant: Thou didst afflict the peoples; But them thou didst spread abroad.
2My heart hath uttered a good word: I speak my works to the king: My tongue is the pen of a scrivener that writeth swiftly.
3 For not by their own sword did they take possession of the land, neither did their own arm save them; but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst delight in them.
3For they gat not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them; But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou wast favorable unto them.
3Thou art beautiful above the sons of men: grace is poured abroad in thy lips; therefore hath God blessed thee for ever.
4 Thou thyself art my king, OGod: command deliverance for Jacob.
4Thou art my King, O God: Command deliverance for Jacob.
4Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O thou most mighty.
5 Through thee will we push down our adversaries; through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.
5Through thee will we push down our adversaries: Through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.
5With thy comeliness and thy beauty set out, proceed prosperously, and reign. Because of truth and meekness and justice: and thy right hand shall conduct thee wonderfully.
6 For I will not put confidence in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.
6For I will not trust in my bow, Neither shall my sword save me.
6Thy arrows are sharp: under thee shall people fall, into the hearts of the king's enemies.
7 For thou hast saved us from our adversaries, and hast put them to shame that hate us.
7But thou hast saved us from our adversaries, And hast put them to shame that hate us.
7Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a sceptre of uprightness.
8 InGod will we boast all the day, and we will praise thy name for ever. Selah.
8In God have we made our boast all the day long, And we will give thanks unto thy name for ever. [Selah
8Thou hast loved justice, and hated iniquity: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
9 But thou hast cast off, and put us to confusion, and dost not go forth with our armies;
9But now thou hast cast us off, and brought us to dishonor, And goest not forth with our hosts.
9Myrrh and stacte and cassia perfume thy garments, from the ivory houses: out of which
10 Thou hast made us to turn back from the adversary, and they that hate us spoil for themselves;
10Thou makest us to turn back from the adversary; And they that hate us take spoil for themselves.
10The daughters of kings have delighted thee in thy glory. The queen stood on thy right hand, in gilded clothing; surrounded with variety.
11 Thou hast given us over like sheep [appointed] for meat, and hast scattered us among the nations;
11Thou hast made us like sheep appointed for food, And hast scattered us among the nations.
11Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline thy ear: and forget thy people and thy father's house.
12 Thou hast sold thy people for nought, and hast not increased [thy wealth] by their price;
12Thou sellest thy people for nought, And hast not increased thy wealth by their price.
12And the king shall greatly desire thy beauty; for he is the Lord thy God, and him they shall adore.
13 Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a mockery and a derision for them that are round about us;
13Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to them that are round about us.
13And the daughters of Tyre with gifts, yea, all the rich among the people, shall entreat thy countenance.
14 Thou makest us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.
14Thou makest us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples.
14All the glory of the king's daughter is within in golden borders,
15 All the day my confusion is before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
15All the day long is my dishonor before me, And the shame of my face hath covered me,
15Clothed round about with varieties. After her shall virgins be brought to the king: her neighbours shall be brought to thee.
16 Because of the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and the avenger.
16For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth, By reason of the enemy and the avenger.
16They shall be brought with gladness and rejoicing: they shall be brought into the temple of the king.
17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely against thy covenant:
17All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, Neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.
17Instead of thy fathers, sons are born to thee: thou shalt make them princes over all the earth.
18 Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy path;
18Our heart is not turned back, Neither have our steps declined from thy way,
18They shall remember thy name throughout all generations. Therefore shall people praise thee for ever; yea, for ever and ever.
19 Though thou hast crushed us in the place of jackals, and covered us with the shadow of death.
19That thou hast sore broken us in the place of jackals, And covered us with the shadow of death.

20If we have forgotten the name of our God, Or spread forth our hands to a strange god;

21 Would notGod search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
21Will not God search this out? For he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

22 But for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are reckoned as sheep for slaughter.
22Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

23 Awake, why sleepest thou, Lord? arise, cast [us] not off for ever.
23Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? Arise, cast us not off for ever.

24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face, [and] forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
24Wherefore hidest thou thy face, And forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
