1Blessed is he that considereth the poor: Jehovah will deliver him in the day of evil.
1How happy is the person who cares for the poor; the LORD will rescue him when trouble comes.
2Jehovah will preserve him, and keep him alive, And he shall be blessed upon the earth; And deliver not thou him unto the will of his enemies.
2The LORD will protect him and keep him alive; he will be blessed in the land. Do not hand him over to the desires of his enemies.
3Jehovah will support him upon the couch of languishing: Thou makest all his bed in his sickness.
3The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed; you will restore him to health again.
4I said, O Jehovah, have mercy upon me: Heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.
4I said, 'LORD, be merciful to me; heal me, for I have sinned against you.'
5Mine enemies speak evil against me, saying, When will he die, and his name perish?
5My enemies say cruel things about me: 'When will he die, and when will his name be forgotten?'
6And if he come to see me, he speaketh falsehood; His heart gathereth iniquity to itself: When he goeth abroad, he telleth it.
6When someone comes to visit me, he speaks empty words. His heart gathers up gossip, and when he leaves, he spreads it everywhere.
7All that hate me whisper together against me; Against me do they devise my hurt.
7All those who hate me whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me.
8An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him; And now that he lieth he shall rise up no more.
8They say, 'A deadly disease has taken hold of him; he will never get up from where he lies.'
9Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, Who did eat of my bread, Hath lifted up his heel against me.
9Even my close friend, whom I trusted and who ate my food, has turned against me.
10But thou, O Jehovah, have mercy upon me, and raise me up, That I may requite them.
10But you, LORD, be merciful to me; raise me up so that I can pay them back.
11By this I know that thou delightest in me, Because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.
11This is how I know you are pleased with me: because my enemy does not shout in victory over me.
