Psalms 4

1Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness; Thou hast set me at large when I was in distress: Have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

1Answer me when I call, O God who declares me innocent. You freed me when I was under pressure; be kind to me now and hear my prayer.

2O ye sons of men, how long shall my glory be turned into dishonor? How longwill ye love vanity, and seek after falsehood? [Selah

2How long, you powerful people, will you ruin my reputation? How long will you love what is worthless and chase after lies? [Selah]

3But know that Jehovah hath set apart for himself him that is godly: Jehovah will hear when I call unto him.

3Understand that the LORD has chosen the godly person for himself; the LORD will hear me whenever I call to him.

4Stand in awe, and sin not: Commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. [Selah

4Don’t let your anger lead you into sin. When you are lying in bed, search your heart and be quiet. [Selah]

5Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And put your trust in Jehovah.

5Offer the right sacrifices and put your confidence in the LORD.

6Many there are that say, Who will show us any good? Jehovah, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

6Many people ask, 'Who will show us anything good?' LORD, let the light of your face shine on us.

7Thou hast put gladness in my heart, More thanthey havewhen their grain and their new wine are increased.

7You have given me more happiness in my heart than those people have when their grain and new wine are overflowing.

8In peace will I both lay me down and sleep; For thou, Jehovah, alone makest me dwell in safety.

8I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, LORD, keep me living in safety.
