1Rejoice in Jehovah, O ye righteous: Praise is comely for the upright.
1Be glad in the Lord, O doers of righteousness; for praise is beautiful for the upright.
1For David, when he changed his countenance before Achimelech, who dismissed him, and he went his way.
2Give thanks unto Jehovah with the harp: Sing praises unto him with the psaltery of ten strings.
2Give praise to the Lord on the corded instrument; make melody to him with instruments of music.
2I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise shall be always in my mouth.
3Sing unto him a new song; Play skilfully with a loud noise.
3Make a new song to him; playing expertly with a loud noise.
3In the Lord shall my soul be praised: let the meek hear and rejoice.
4For the word of Jehovah is right; And all his work isdonein faithfulness.
4For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his works are certain.
4O magnify the Lord with me; and let us extol his name together.
5He loveth righteousness and justice: The earth is full of the lovingkindness of Jehovah.
5His delight is in righteousness and wisdom; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.
5I sought the Lord, and he heard me; and he delivered me from all my troubles.
6By the word of Jehovah were the heavens made, And all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
6By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the army of heaven by the breath of his mouth.
6Come ye to him and be enlightened: and your faces shall not be confounded.
7He gathereth the waters of the sea together as a heap: He layeth up the deeps in store-houses.
7He makes the waters of the sea come together in a mass; he keeps the deep seas in store-houses.
7This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him: and saved him out of all his troubles.
8Let all the earth fear Jehovah: Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
8Let the earth be full of the fear of the Lord; let all the people of the world be in holy fear of him.
8The angel of the Lord shall encamp round about them that fear him: and shall deliver them.
9For he spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.
9For he gave the word, and it was done; by his order it was fixed for ever.
9O taste, and see that the Lord is sweet: blessed is the man that hopeth in him.
10Jehovah bringeth the counsel of the nations to nought; He maketh the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.
10The Lord undoes the designs of the nations; he makes the thoughts of the peoples without effect.
10Fear the Lord, all ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
11The counsel of Jehovah standeth fast for ever, The thoughts of his heart to all generations.
11The Lord's purpose is eternal, the designs of his heart go on through all the generations of man.
11The rich have wanted, and have suffered hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not be deprived of any good.
12Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah, The people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
12Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he has taken for his heritage.
12Come, children, hearken to me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
13Jehovah looketh from heaven; He beholdeth all the sons of men;
13The Lord is looking down from heaven; he sees all the sons of men;
13Who is the man that desireth life: who liveth to see good days?
14From the place of his habitation he looketh forth Upon all the inhabitants of the earth,
14From his house he keeps watch on all who are living on the earth;
14Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
15He that fashioneth the hearts of them all, That considereth all their works.
15He makes all their hearts; their works are clear to him.
15Turn away from evil and do good: seek after peace and pursue it.
16There is no king saved by the multitude of a host: A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
16A king's salvation is not in the power of his army; a strong man does not get free by his great strength.
16The eyes of the Lord are upon the just: and his ears unto their prayers.
17A horse is a vain thing for safety; Neither doth he deliver any by his great power.
17A horse is a false hope; his great power will not make any man free from danger.
17But the countenance of the Lord is against them that do evil things: to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
18Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon them that fear him, Upon them that hope in his lovingkindness;
18See, the eye of the Lord is on those in whose hearts is the fear of him, on those whose hope is in his mercy;
18The just cried, and the Lord heard them: and delivered them out of all their troubles.
19To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine.
19To keep their souls from death; and to keep them living in time of need.
19The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a contrite heart: and he will save the humble of spirit.
20Our soul hath waited for Jehovah: He is our help and our shield.
20Our souls are waiting for the Lord; he is our help and our salvation.
20Many are the afflictions of the just; but out of them all will the Lord deliver them.
21For our heart shall rejoice in him, Because we have trusted in his holy name.
21For in him our hearts have joy; in his holy name is our hope.
21The Lord keepeth all their bones, not one of them shall be broken.
