Psalms 33

1Rejoice in Jehovah, O ye righteous: Praise is comely for the upright.

1Rejoice in the LORD, you who are righteous; it is right for those who are upright to praise him.

2Give thanks unto Jehovah with the harp: Sing praises unto him with the psaltery of ten strings.

2Give thanks to the LORD with the harp; sing praises to him with the ten-stringed lute.

3Sing unto him a new song; Play skilfully with a loud noise.

3Sing to him a new song; play skillfully and shout for joy.

4For the word of Jehovah is right; And all his work isdonein faithfulness.

4For the word of the LORD is true, and everything he does is done in faithfulness.

5He loveth righteousness and justice: The earth is full of the lovingkindness of Jehovah.

5He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the LORD’s constant love.

6By the word of Jehovah were the heavens made, And all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

6The heavens were made by the word of the LORD, and all the stars by the breath of his mouth.

7He gathereth the waters of the sea together as a heap: He layeth up the deeps in store-houses.

7He gathers the waters of the sea together like a mound; he puts the deep oceans into his storehouses.

8Let all the earth fear Jehovah: Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

8Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world stand in awe of him.

9For he spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.

9For he spoke, and it happened; he commanded, and it stood firm.

10Jehovah bringeth the counsel of the nations to nought; He maketh the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.

10The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations; he ruins the schemes of the peoples.

11The counsel of Jehovah standeth fast for ever, The thoughts of his heart to all generations.

11But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever; the intentions of his heart last through all generations.

12Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah, The people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

12Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he has chosen as his own special possession.

13Jehovah looketh from heaven; He beholdeth all the sons of men;

13The LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all of humanity.

14From the place of his habitation he looketh forth Upon all the inhabitants of the earth,

14From the place where he lives, he watches everyone who inhabits the earth.

15He that fashioneth the hearts of them all, That considereth all their works.

15He is the one who made all their hearts; he understands everything they do.

16There is no king saved by the multitude of a host: A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.

16No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior is rescued by his great strength.

17A horse is a vain thing for safety; Neither doth he deliver any by his great power.

17A war horse is a false hope for victory; despite its great strength, it cannot save.

18Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon them that fear him, Upon them that hope in his lovingkindness;

18But the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who put their hope in his constant love.

19To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine.

19He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of hunger.

20Our soul hath waited for Jehovah: He is our help and our shield.

20We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield.

21For our heart shall rejoice in him, Because we have trusted in his holy name.

21Our hearts rejoice in him, because we trust in his holy name.

22Let thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, be upon us, According as we have hoped in thee.

22May your constant love be with us, LORD, just as we have put our hope in you.
