1Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.
1How happy is the person whose disobedience is forgiven and whose sin is put out of sight.
2Blessed is the man unto whom Jehovah imputeth not iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no guile.
2How happy is the man whom the LORD does not charge with guilt, and who has no deceit in his heart.
3When I kept silence, my bones wasted away Through my groaning all the day long.
3When I refused to confess my sin, my body grew weak from my constant groaning all day long.
4For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: My moisture was changed as with the drought of summer. [Selah
4For day and night your hand of discipline felt heavy on me; my strength drained away like water in the summer heat.
5I acknowledged my sin unto thee, And mine iniquity did I not hide: I said, I will confess my transgressions unto Jehovah; And thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. [Selah
5Finally, I admitted my sin to you and did not hide my guilt. I said, 'I will confess my rebellion to the LORD,' and you forgave the guilt of my sin.
6For this let every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: Surely when the great waters overflow they shall not reach unto him.
6Therefore, let all godly people pray to you while there is still time to find you; then, even when the great floodwaters rise, they will not reach them.
7Thou art my hiding-place; thou wilt preserve me from trouble; Thou wilt compass me about with songs of deliverance. [Selah
7You are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory because you saved me.
8I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will counsel thee with mine eye upon thee.
8The LORD says, 'I will instruct you and teach you the path you should follow; I will guide you and keep my eye on you.'
9Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding; Whose trappings must be bit and bridle to hold them in, Elsethey will not come near unto thee.
9Do not be like a horse or a mule that has no understanding; they must be controlled by a bit and bridle, or they will not stay near you.
