1I will extol thee, O Jehovah; for thou hast raised me up, And hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.

1I will honor you, LORD, because you have lifted me out of my troubles and did not let my enemies celebrate over me.

2O Jehovah my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

2LORD my God, I cried out to you for help, and you healed me.

3O Jehovah, thou hast brought up my soul from Sheol; Thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

3LORD, you brought me up from the grave; you kept me alive so I would not sink into the pit of death.

4Sing praise unto Jehovah, O ye saints of his, And give thanks to his holy memorial name.

4Sing praises to the LORD, you who are faithful to him; praise his holy name.

5For his anger is but for a moment; His favor is for a life-time: Weeping may tarry for the night, But joy cometh in the morning.

5His anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime. Crying may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.

6As for me, I said in my prosperity, I shall never be moved.

6When I was successful and felt secure, I said, 'I will never be shaken.'

7Thou, Jehovah, of thy favor hadst made my mountain to stand strong: Thou didst hide thy face; I was troubled.

7LORD, by your favor, you made me as steady as a strong mountain; but when you hid your face from me, I was terrified.

8I cried to thee, O Jehovah; And unto Jehovah I made supplication:

8I cried out to you, LORD; I begged the Lord for mercy.

9What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?

9I asked, 'What good is my death if I go down to the pit? Can the dust of the earth praise you? Can it tell others how faithful you are?'

10Hear, O Jehovah, and have mercy upon me: Jehovah, be thou my helper.

10Hear me, LORD, and have mercy on me. LORD, please help me.

11Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing; Thou hast loosed my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;

11You have changed my sadness into a celebration of dancing; you took off my clothes of mourning and dressed me in joy.

12To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Jehovah my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

12Now I can sing your praises and not be silent. LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever.
