1 Lord, how greatly are they increased who make attacks on me! in great numbers they come against me.

1The psalm of David when he fled from the face of his son Absalom.

2Unnumbered are those who say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. (Selah.)

2Why, O Lord, are they multiplied that afflict me? many are they who rise up against me.

3But your strength, O Lord, is round me, you are my glory and the lifter up of my head.

3Many say to my soul: There is no salvation for him in his God.

4I send up a cry to the Lord with my voice, and he gives me an answer from his holy hill. (Selah.)

4But thou, O Lord, art my protector, my glory, and the lifter up of my head.

5I took my rest in sleep, and then again I was awake; for the Lord was my support.

5I have cried to the Lord with my voice: and he hath heard me from his holy hill.

6I will have no fear, though ten thousand have come round me, putting themselves against me.

6I have slept and have taken my rest: and I have risen up, because the Lord hath protected me.

7Come to me, Lord; keep me safe, O my God; for you have given all my haters blows on their face-bones; the teeth of the evil-doers have been broken by you.

7I will not fear thousands of the people surrounding me: arise, O Lord; save me, O my God.

8Salvation comes from the Lord; your blessing is on your people. (Selah.)

8For thou hast struck all them who are my adversaries without cause: thou hast broken the teeth of sinners.

9(not in this translation)

9Salvation is of the Lord: and thy blessing is upon thy people.
