1Unto thee, O Jehovah, do I lift up my soul.

1I lift up my soul to you, O Lord.

2O my God, in thee have I trusted, Let me not be put to shame; Let not mine enemies triumph over me.

2O my God, I trust in you; do not let me be disgraced, and do not let my enemies celebrate over me.

3Yea, none that wait for thee shall be put to shame: They shall be put to shame that deal treacherously without cause.

3No one who waits for you will be disgraced, but those who are unfaithful for no reason will be put to shame.

4Show me thy ways, O Jehovah; Teach me thy paths.

4Show me your ways, O Lord, and teach me how to follow your paths.

5Guide me in thy truth, and teach me; For thou art the God of my salvation; For thee do I wait all the day.

5Guide me in your truth and teach me, because you are the God who saves me; I wait for you all day long.

6Remember, O Jehovah, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindness; For they have been ever of old.

6Remember, O Lord, your deep compassion and your constant love, which you have shown from the beginning.

7Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: According to thy lovingkindness remember thou me, For thy goodness’ sake, O Jehovah.

7Do not remember the sins of my youth or my rebellious acts; remember me instead through your constant love, because you are good, O Lord.

8Good and upright is Jehovah: Therefore will he instruct sinners in the way.

8The Lord is good and does what is right; therefore, he shows sinners the right way to live.

9The meek will he guide in justice; And the meek will he teach his way.

9He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.

10All the paths of Jehovah are lovingkindness and truth Unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.

10Every path the Lord leads is filled with constant love and faithfulness for those who keep the promises of his covenant and follow his teachings.

11For thy name’s sake, O Jehovah, Pardon mine iniquity, for it is great.

11For the sake of your reputation, O Lord, forgive my sin, even though it is very great.

12What man is he that feareth Jehovah? Him shall he instruct in the way that he shall choose.

12Who are the people who honor the Lord? He will teach them the path they should choose.

13His soul shall dwell at ease; And his seed shall inherit the land.

13They will live a good life, and their children will inherit the land.

14The friendship of Jehovah is with them that fear him; And he will show them his covenant.

14The Lord shares his secrets with those who fear him, and he makes his covenant known to them.

15Mine eyes are ever toward Jehovah; For he will pluck my feet out of the net.

15My eyes are always looking to the Lord, for he is the one who will release my feet from the trap.

16Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; For I am desolate and afflicted.

16Turn to me and be merciful, because I am lonely and suffering.

17The troubles of my heart are enlarged: Oh bring thou me out of my distresses.

17The troubles of my heart have grown; please bring me out of my distress.

18Consider mine affliction and my travail; And forgive all my sins.

18Look at my pain and my struggle, and forgive all my sins.

19Consider mine enemies, for they are many; And they hate me with cruel hatred.

19See how many enemies I have and how much they hate me with cruel violence.

20Oh keep my soul, and deliver me: Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in thee.

20Protect my life and rescue me; do not let me be disgraced, for I have come to you for safety.

21Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, For I wait for thee.

21May honesty and integrity protect me, because I put my hope in you.

22Redeem Israel, O God, Out of all his troubles.

22O God, rescue Israel from all their troubles!
