1The king shall joy in thy strength, O Jehovah; And in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!

1The king finds great joy in your strength, O LORD; he celebrates your victory with loud shouting!

2Thou hast given him his heart’s desire, And hast not withholden the request of his lips. [Selah

2You have given him exactly what his heart longed for; you did not refuse what he asked of you.

3For thou meetest him with the blessings of goodness: Thou settest a crown of fine gold on his head.

3For you welcomed him with rich blessings; you placed a crown of pure gold on his head.

4He asked life of thee, thou gavest it him, Even length of days for ever and ever.

4He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—a long life that goes on forever and ever.

5His glory is great in thy salvation: Honor and majesty dost thou lay upon him.

5Your help has brought him great glory; you have clothed him with honor and majesty.

6For thou makest him most blessed for ever: Thou makest him glad with joy in thy presence.

6You have given him eternal blessings; you fill him with joy because of your presence.

7For the king trusteth in Jehovah; And through the lovingkindness of the Most High he shall not be moved.

7The king trusts in the LORD; because of the faithful love of the Most High, he will never be shaken.

8Thy hand will find out all thine enemies; Thy right hand will find out those that hate thee.

8Your hand will track down all your enemies; your powerful right hand will find those who hate you.

9Thou wilt make them as a fiery furnace in the time of thine anger: Jehovah will swallow them up in his wrath, And the fire shall devour them.

9When you appear, you will burn them up like a blazing furnace. The LORD will swallow them up in his anger, and fire will consume them.

10Their fruit wilt thou destroy from the earth, And their seed from among the children of men.

10You will wipe their children from the face of the earth and destroy their descendants from among the human race.

11For they intended evil against thee; They conceived a device which they are not able to perform.

11Even though they planned evil against you and plotted clever schemes, they will not succeed.

12For thou wilt make them turn their back; Thou wilt make ready with thy bowstrings against their face.

12For you will make them turn and run away when you aim your bow directly at their faces.

13Be thou exalted, O Jehovah, in thy strength: So will we sing and praise thy power.

13Rise up, O LORD, in your great strength! We will sing and praise your power.
