1Hear the right, O Jehovah, attend unto my cry; Give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.
1Lord, listen to my plea for justice; pay attention to my cry. Listen to my prayer, because it comes from honest lips.
2Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; Let thine eyes look upon equity.
2Let my judgment come from you, for your eyes see what is right.
3Thou hast proved my heart; thou hast visited me in the night; Thou hast tried me, and findest nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
3You have tested my heart and examined me during the night. You have scrutinized me and found no evil intent; I have decided that my mouth will not sin.
4As for the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the ways of the violent.
4As for what others do, I have followed your word to stay away from the paths of violent people.
5My steps have held fast to thy paths, My feet have not slipped.
5My steps have stayed on your tracks; my feet have not stumbled.
6I have called upon thee, for thou wilt answer me, O God: Incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.
6I call on you, O God, because I know you will answer me. Turn your ear toward me and listen to what I say.
7Show thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them that take refuge in thee From those that rise upagainst them.
7Show me your amazing, faithful love. With your powerful right hand, you save those who seek safety in you from their enemies.
8Keep me as the apple of the eye; Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
8Guard me as the most precious part of your eye. Hide me under the shadow of your wings.
9From the wicked that oppress me, My deadly enemies, that compass me about.
9Protect me from the wicked people who attack me, from the deadly enemies who surround me.
10They are inclosed in their own fat: With their mouth they speak proudly.
10They have closed their hearts to pity; they speak with great pride.
11They have now compassed us in our steps; They set their eyes to castusdown to the earth.
11They have tracked me down and now they surround me. They are watching closely for a chance to throw me to the ground.
12He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey, And as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.
12They are like a lion hungry for its prey, like a young lion hiding in wait.
13Arise, O Jehovah, Confront him, cast him down: Deliver my soul from the wicked by thy sword;
13Arise, Lord! Confront them and pull them down. Use your sword to save my life from the wicked.
14From men by thy hand, O Jehovah, From men of the world, whose portion is inthislife, And whose belly thou fillest with thy treasure: They are satisfied with children, And leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
14Lord, save me by your power from such men—from men of this world whose only reward is in this life. You fill their bellies with the treasures you provide; their children have plenty, and they leave wealth to their little ones.
