1Preserve me, O God; for in thee do I take refuge.
1Keep me safe, O God, because I come to you for protection.
2O my soul, thou hast said unto Jehovah, Thou art my Lord: I have no good beyond thee.
2I said to the LORD, 'You are my Lord; I have nothing good apart from you.'
3As for the saints that are in the earth, They are the excellent in whom is all my delight.
3As for the godly people in the land, they are the noble ones who give me great joy.
4Their sorrows shall be multiplied that give gifts for another god: Their drink-offerings of blood will I not offer, Nor take their names upon my lips.
4Those who chase after other gods will bring many sorrows on themselves; I will not join in their bloody sacrifices, and I will not even speak the names of their gods.
5Jehovah is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: Thou maintainest my lot.
5LORD, you are my prize and my cup of blessing; you are the one who makes my future secure.
6The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; Yea, I have a goodly heritage.
6The boundary lines of my life have fallen in pleasant places; yes, I have a wonderful inheritance.
7I will bless Jehovah, who hath given me counsel; Yea, my heart instructeth me in the night seasons.
7I will praise the LORD who guides me; even at night, my heart instructs me.
8I have set Jehovah always before me: Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
8I always keep the LORD right in front of me; because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
9Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: My flesh also shall dwell in safety.
9Because of this, my heart is glad and my whole being rejoices; my body will also live in safety.
