1Blessed be Jehovah my rock, Who teacheth my hands to war, Andmy fingers to fight:
1Praise the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.
2My lovingkindness, and my fortress, My high tower, and my deliverer; My shield, and he in whom I take refuge; Who subdueth my people under me.
2He is my loving protector and my fortress, my high tower and my rescuer. He is my shield, the one in whom I take refuge, who brings the nations under my authority.
3Jehovah, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that thou makest account of him?
3LORD, what are human beings that you care about them? What are mere mortals that you think of them at all?
4Man is like to vanity: His days are as a shadow that passeth away.
4People are like a puff of wind; their days are like a shadow that quickly disappears.
5Bow thy heavens, O Jehovah, and come down: Touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.
5Open the heavens, LORD, and come down; touch the mountains so that they smoke.
6Cast forth lightning, and scatter them; Send out thine arrows, and discomfit them.
6Send out flashes of lightning and scatter my enemies; shoot your arrows and throw them into confusion.
7Stretch forth thy hand from above; Rescue me, and deliver me out of great waters, Out of the hand of aliens;
7Reach down your hand from above; rescue me and pull me out of deep waters, away from the power of foreigners.
8Whose mouth speaketh deceit, And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
8Their mouths speak only lies, and even when they raise their right hands to take an oath, they are being deceitful.
9I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: Upon a psaltery of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee.
9I will sing a new song to you, O God; I will sing your praises to the music of a ten-stringed harp.
10Thou art he that giveth salvation unto kings; Who rescueth David his servant from the hurtful sword.
10You are the one who gives victory to kings; you rescue your servant David from the deadly sword.
11Rescue me, and deliver me out of the hand of aliens, Whose mouth speaketh deceit, And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
11Rescue me and save me from the power of foreigners, whose mouths tell lies and whose right hands are used for cheating.
12When our sons shall be as plants grown up in their youth, And our daughters as corner-stones hewn after the fashion of a palace;
12Then our sons will be like healthy plants that grow up quickly, and our daughters will be like the carved pillars that decorate a palace corner.
13Whenour garners are full, affording all manner of store, Andour sheep bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields;
13Our barns will be full, providing every kind of harvest; our sheep will give birth to thousands and tens of thousands in our fields.
