1 The sound of my cry went up to the Lord; with my voice I made my prayer for grace to the Lord.
1An Instruction of David, a Prayer when he is in the cave. My voice <FI>is<Fi> unto Jehovah, I cry, My voice <FI>is<Fi> unto Jehovah, I entreat grace.
1A psalm of David, when his son Absalom pursued him. Hear, O Lord, my prayer: give ear to my supplication in thy truth: hear me in thy justice.
2I put all my sorrows before him; and made clear to him all my trouble.
2I pour forth before Him my meditation, My distress before Him I declare.
2And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight no man living shall be justified.
3When my spirit is overcome, your eyes are on my goings; nets have been secretly placed in the way in which I go.
3When my spirit hath been feeble in me, Then Thou hast known my path; In the way <FI>in<Fi> which I walk, They have hid a snare for me.
3For the enemy hath persecuted my soul: he hath brought down my life to the earth. He hath made me to dwell in darkness as those that have been dead of old:
4Looking to my right side, I saw no man who was my friend: I had no safe place; no one had any care for my soul.
4Looking on the right hand--and seeing, And I have none recognizing; Perished hath refuge from me, There is none inquiring for my soul.
4And my spirit is in anguish within me: my heart within me is troubled.
5I have made my cry to you, O Lord; I have said, You are my safe place, and my heritage in the land of the living.
5I have cried unto thee, O Jehovah, I have said, `Thou <FI>art<Fi> my refuge, My portion in the land of the living.'
5I remembered the days of old, I meditated on all thy works: I meditated upon the works of thy hands.
6Give ear to my cry, for I am made very low: take me out of the hands of my haters, for they are stronger than I.
6Attend Thou unto my loud cry, For I have become very low, Deliver Thou me from my pursuers, For they have been stronger than I.
6I stretched forth my hands to thee: my soul is as earth without water unto thee.
7Take my soul out of prison, so that I may give praise to your name: the upright will give praise because of me; for you have given me a full reward.
7Bring forth from prison my soul to confess Thy name, The righteous do compass me about, When Thou conferrest benefits upon me!
7Hear me speedily, O Lord: my spirit hath fainted away. Turn not away thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.

8Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning; for in thee have I hoped. Make the way known to me, wherein I should walk: for I have lifted up my soul to thee.
