1Jehovah, I have called upon thee; make haste unto me: Give ear unto my voice, when I call unto thee.

1LORD, I am calling to you; come to me quickly! Listen to my voice when I cry out to you.

2Let my prayer be set forth as incense before thee; The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

2Let my prayer be like incense placed before you, and the lifting up of my hands like the evening sacrifice.

3Set a watch, O Jehovah, before my mouth; Keep the door of my lips.

3LORD, put a guard over my mouth; keep a watch over the door of my lips.

4Incline not my heart to any evil thing, To practise deeds of wickedness With men that work iniquity: And let me not eat of their dainties.

4Do not let my heart turn toward anything evil, or let me join in wicked acts with people who do wrong. Do not let me eat their choice foods.

5Let the righteous smite me, it shall bea kindness; And let him reprove me, it shall be asoil upon the head; Let not my head refuse it: For even in their wickedness shall my prayer continue.

5If a righteous person strikes me, let it be out of kindness; if they correct me, it is like healing oil on my head. Do not let me reject it. Yet I will continue to pray against the evil deeds of the wicked.

6Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock; And they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.

6When their leaders are thrown down the sides of a cliff, people will realize that my words were true and pleasant.

7As when one ploweth and cleaveth the earth, Our bones are scattered at the mouth of Sheol.

7Like the ground is plowed and broken up, our bones are scattered at the entrance of the grave.

8For mine eyes are unto thee, O Jehovah the Lord: In thee do I take refuge; leave not my soul destitute.

8But my eyes are fixed on you, GOD the Lord. I take refuge in you; do not leave me defenseless.

9Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me, And from the gins of the workers of iniquity.

9Protect me from the traps they have set for me and from the snares of those who do evil.

10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, Whilst that I withal escape.

10Let the wicked fall into their own nets while I pass by in safety.
