1Lord, remember David, and all his afflictions:
1A gradual canticle of David. Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity:
1 Lord, give thought to David, and to all his troubles;
2How he sware unto the Lord, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;
2Like the precious ointment on the head, that ran down upon the beard, the beard of Aaron, Which ran down to the skirt of his garment:
2How he made an oath to the Lord, and gave his word to the great God of Jacob, saying,
3Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;
3As the dew of Hermon, which descendeth upon mount Sion. For there the Lord hath commanded blessing, and life for evermore.
3Truly, I will not come into my house, or go to my bed,
4I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,
4(not in this translation)
4I will not give sleep to my eyes, or rest to my eyeballs,
5Until I find out a place for the Lord, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.
5(not in this translation)
5Till I have got a place for the Lord, a resting-place for the great God of Jacob.
6Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.
6(not in this translation)
6We had news of it at Ephrathah: we came to it in the fields of the wood.
7We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool.
7(not in this translation)
7Let us go into his tent; let us give worship at his feet.
8Arise, O Lord, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.
8(not in this translation)
8Come back, O Lord, to your resting-place; you and the ark of your strength.
9Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.
9(not in this translation)
9Let your priests be clothed with righteousness; and let your saints give cries of joy.
10For thy servant David’s sake turn not away the face of thine anointed.
10(not in this translation)
10Because of your servant David, do not give up your king.
11The Lord hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.
11(not in this translation)
11The Lord gave a true oath to David, which he will not take back, saying, I will give your kingdom to the fruit of your body.
12If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.
12(not in this translation)
12If your children keep my word, and the teachings which I will give them, their children will be rulers of your kingdom for ever.
13For the Lord hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.
13(not in this translation)
13For the Lord's heart is on Zion, desiring it for his resting-place.
14This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.
14(not in this translation)
14This is my rest for ever: here will I ever be; for this is my desire.
15I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.
15(not in this translation)
15My blessing will be on her food; and her poor will be full of bread.
16I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.
16(not in this translation)
16Her priests will be clothed with salvation; and her saints will give cries of joy.
