1Jehovah, remember for David All his affliction;

1Lord, remember David and all the hardships he endured.

2How he sware unto Jehovah, And vowed unto the Mighty One of Jacob:

2Remember how he made a solemn promise to the Lord and a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:

3Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, Nor go up into my bed;

3“I will not enter my house or lie down on my bed;

4I will not give sleep to mine eyes, Or slumber to mine eyelids;

4I will not allow my eyes to sleep or my eyelids to close in slumber,

5Until I find out a place for Jehovah, A tabernacle for the Mighty One of Jacob.

5until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

6Lo, we heard of it in Ephrathah: We found it in the field of the wood.

6We heard the ark was in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar.

7We will go into his tabernacles; We will worship at his footstool.

7Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool.

8Arise, O Jehovah, into thy resting-place; Thou, and the ark of thy strength.

8Arise, Lord, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your power.

9Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; And let thy saints shout for joy.

9May your priests be clothed with goodness, and may your godly people shout for joy.

10For thy servant David’s sake Turn not away the face of thine anointed.

10For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed king.

11Jehovah hath sworn unto David in truth; He will not turn from it: Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

11The Lord made a faithful promise to David, and he will not take it back: “I will place one of your own descendants on your throne.

12If thy children will keep my covenant And my testimony that I shall teach them, Their children also shall sit upon thy throne for evermore.

12If your sons keep my covenant and the laws I teach them, then their descendants will sit on your throne forever.”

13For Jehovah hath chosen Zion; He hath desired it for his habitation.

13For the Lord has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his home.

14This is my resting-place for ever: Here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

14“This is my resting place forever,” he said. “I will live here because I have desired it.

15I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.

15I will give her plenty of food and satisfy her poor with bread.

16Her priests also will I clothe with salvation; And her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

16I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her godly people will sing for joy.

17There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.

17There I will make David’s power grow; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed king.

18His enemies will I clothe with shame; But upon himself shall his crown flourish.

18I will cover his enemies with shame, but his own crown will shine brightly.”
