1A Song of the Ascents. From depths I have called Thee, Jehovah.

1A gradual canticle of David. Lord, my heart is not exalted: nor are my eyes lofty. Neither have I walked in great matters, nor in wonderful things above me.

2Lord, hearken to my voice, Thine ears are attentive to the voice of my supplications.

2If I was not humbly minded, but exalted my soul: As a child that is weaned is towards his mother, so reward in my soul.

3If iniquities Thou dost observe, O Lord, who doth stand?

3Let Israel hope in the Lord, from henceforth now and for ever.

4But with Thee <FI>is<Fi> forgiveness, that Thou mayest be feared.

4(not in this translation)

5I hoped <FI>for<Fi> Jehovah--hoped hath my soul, And for His word I have waited.

5(not in this translation)

6My soul <FI>is<Fi> for the Lord, More than those watching for morning, Watching for morning!

6(not in this translation)

7Israel doth wait on Jehovah, For with Jehovah <FI>is<Fi> kindness, And abundant with Him <FI>is<Fi> redemption.

8And He doth redeem Israel from all his iniquities!
