1A gradual canticle of David. Lord, my heart is not exalted: nor are my eyes lofty. Neither have I walked in great matters, nor in wonderful things above me.

1Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Jehovah.

1 Out of the deep have I sent up my cry to you, O Lord.

2If I was not humbly minded, but exalted my soul: As a child that is weaned is towards his mother, so reward in my soul.

2Lord, hear my voice: Let thine ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications.

2Lord, let my voice come before you: let your ears be awake to the voice of my prayer.

3Let Israel hope in the Lord, from henceforth now and for ever.

3If thou, Jehovah, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?

3O Jah, if you took note of every sin, who would go free?
