1 Out of the deep have I sent up my cry to you, O Lord.

1A gradual canticle of David. Lord, my heart is not exalted: nor are my eyes lofty. Neither have I walked in great matters, nor in wonderful things above me.

1A Song of the Ascents. From depths I have called Thee, Jehovah.

2Lord, let my voice come before you: let your ears be awake to the voice of my prayer.

2If I was not humbly minded, but exalted my soul: As a child that is weaned is towards his mother, so reward in my soul.

2Lord, hearken to my voice, Thine ears are attentive to the voice of my supplications.

3O Jah, if you took note of every sin, who would go free?

3Let Israel hope in the Lord, from henceforth now and for ever.

3If iniquities Thou dost observe, O Lord, who doth stand?

4But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be feared.

5I am waiting for the Lord, my soul is waiting for him, and my hope is in his word.
