1Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Jehovah.
1From the deepest place of my soul, I cry out to you, LORD.
2Lord, hear my voice: Let thine ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications.
2Lord, hear my voice; let your ears listen closely to my cry for mercy.
3If thou, Jehovah, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?
3If you, LORD, kept a record of every sin, who could ever survive?
4But there is forgiveness with thee, That thou mayest be feared.
4But you offer forgiveness, so that people may worship you with respect.
5I wait for Jehovah, my soul doth wait, And in his word do I hope.
5I wait for the LORD, my entire being waits, and I put my hope in his word.
6My soul waiteth for the Lord More than watchmen wait for the morning; Yea, more thanwatchmen for the morning.
6I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning—more than watchmen wait for the dawn.
