1Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways.
1 Happy is the worshipper of the Lord, who is walking in his ways.
1A gradual canticle. Often have they fought against me from my youth, let Israel now say.
2For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
2You will have the fruit of the work of your hands: happy will you be, and all will be well for you.
2Often have they fought against me from my youth: but they could not prevail over me.
3Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.
3Your wife will be like a fertile vine in the inmost parts of your house: your children will be like olive plants round your table.
3The wicked have wrought upon my back: they have lengthened their iniquity.
4Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord.
4See! this is the blessing of the worshipper of the Lord.
4The Lord who is just will cut the necks of sinners:
5The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
5May the Lord send you blessing out of Zion: may you see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life.
5Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Sion.
6Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children, and peace upon Israel.
6May you see your children's children. Peace be on Israel.
6Let them be as grass upon the tops of houses: which withereth before it be plucked up:
