1 Blessed is every one that feareth Jehovah, that walketh in his ways.
1A gradual canticle. Often have they fought against me from my youth, let Israel now say.
1A Song of the Ascents. O the happiness of every one fearing Jehovah, Who is walking in His ways.
2 For thou shalt eat the labour of thy hands; happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
2Often have they fought against me from my youth: but they could not prevail over me.
2The labour of thy hands thou surely eatest, Happy <FI>art<Fi> thou, and good <FI>is<Fi> to thee.
3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine in the inner part of thy house; thy children like olive-plants round about thy table.
3The wicked have wrought upon my back: they have lengthened their iniquity.
3Thy wife <FI>is<Fi> as a fruitful vine in the sides of thy house, Thy sons as olive plants around thy table.
4 Behold, thus shall the man be blessed that feareth Jehovah.
4The Lord who is just will cut the necks of sinners:
4Lo, surely thus is the man blessed who is fearing Jehovah.
5 Jehovah will bless thee out of Zion; and mayest thou see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life,
5Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Sion.
5Jehovah doth bless thee out of Zion, Look, then, on the good of Jerusalem, All the days of thy life,
6 And see thy children's children. Peace be upon Israel!
6Let them be as grass upon the tops of houses: which withereth before it be plucked up:
6And see the sons of thy sons! Peace on Israel!
