1In my distress I cried unto Jehovah, And he answered me.

1In my trouble I called out to the LORD, and He answered me.

2Deliver my soul, O Jehovah, from lying lips, Andfrom a deceitful tongue.

2LORD, save me from people who lie and from tongues that are full of deceit.

3What shall be given unto thee, and what shall be done more unto thee, Thou deceitful tongue?

3What will He give you, and what more will happen to you, you lying tongue?

4Sharp arrows of the mighty, With coals of juniper.

4He will punish you with the sharp arrows of a warrior and with burning coals of a broom tree.

5Woe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech, That I dwell among the tents of Kedar!

5How terrible it is for me to live as a foreigner in Meshech or to stay among the tents of Kedar!

6My soul hath long had her dwelling With him that hateth peace.

6I have lived for much too long among people who hate peace.

7I amforpeace: But when I speak, they are for war.

7I am for peace, but when I speak of it, they are only interested in war.
