Psalms 116

1I love Jehovah, because he heareth My voice and my supplications.

1I love the LORD because he listens to my voice and my prayers for mercy.

2Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, Therefore will I callupon himas long as I live.

2Because he turned his ear to hear me, I will pray to him as long as I live.

3The cords of death compassed me, And the pains of Sheol gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.

3The ropes of death were wrapped around me, and the terrors of the grave took hold of me; I was filled with trouble and sorrow.

4Then called I upon the name of Jehovah: O Jehovah, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.

4Then I called on the name of the LORD: "O LORD, I beg you, save my life!"

5Gracious is Jehovah, and righteous; Yea, our God is merciful.

5The LORD is kind and does what is right; yes, our God is full of mercy.

6Jehovah preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he saved me.

6The LORD protects those who are helpless; when I was at my lowest point, he saved me.

7Return unto thy rest, O my soul; For Jehovah hath dealt bountifully with thee.

7My soul, be at peace again, because the LORD has been very good to you.

8For thou hast delivered my soul from death, Mine eyes from tears, Andmy feet from falling.

8For you have saved me from death, kept my eyes from crying, and kept my feet from slipping.

9I will walk before Jehovah In the land of the living.

9I will walk in the presence of the LORD while I am here in the land of the living.

10I believe, for I will speak: I was greatly afflicted:

10I kept my faith even when I said, "I am suffering terribly."

11I said in my haste, All men are liars.

11In my panic I said, "No one can be trusted."

12What shall I render unto Jehovah For all his benefits toward me?

12How can I repay the LORD for all the good things he has done for me?

13I will take the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of Jehovah.

13I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD.

14I will pay my vows unto Jehovah, Yea, in the presence of all his people.

14I will fulfill the promises I made to the LORD in front of all his people.

15Precious in the sight of Jehovah Is the death of his saints.

15The death of those who are faithful to him is very important to the LORD.

16O Jehovah, truly I am thy servant: I am thy servant, the son of thy handmaid; Thou hast loosed my bonds.

16O LORD, I am truly your servant; I am your servant, the son of your female servant. You have set me free from my chains.

17I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call upon the name of Jehovah.

17I will offer a sacrifice of thanks to you and call on the name of the LORD.

18I will pay my vows unto Jehovah, Yea, in the presence of all his people,

18I will fulfill my promises to the LORD in the presence of all his people,

19In the courts of Jehovah’s house, In the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye Jehovah.

19in the courtyards of the LORD’S house, right there in the middle of Jerusalem. Praise the LORD!
