1A canticle of a psalm for David himself.

1`Give ye thanks to Jehovah, For good, for to the age <FI>is<Fi> His kindness:'

1O give praise to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.

2My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready: I will sing, and will give praise, with my glory.

2Let the redeemed of Jehovah say, Whom He redeemed from the hand of an adversary.

2Let those whose cause the Lord has taken up say so, his people whom he has taken out of the hands of their haters;

3Arise, my glory; arise, psaltery and harp: I will arise in the morning early.

3And from the lands hath gathered them, From east and from west, From north, and from the sea.

3Making them come together out of all the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

4I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: and I will sing unto thee among the nations.

4They wandered in a wilderness, in a desert by the way, A city of habitation they have not found.

4They were wandering in the waste places; they saw no way to a resting-place.

5For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth even unto the clouds.

5Hungry--yea--thirsty, Their soul in them becometh feeble,

5Their souls became feeble for need of food and drink.

6Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens, and thy glory over all the earth:

6And they cry unto Jehovah in their adversity, From their distress He delivereth them,

6Then they sent up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow, and he gave them salvation out of all their troubles;

7That thy beloved may be delivered. Save with thy right hand and hear me.

7And causeth them to tread in a right way, To go unto a city of habitation.

7Guiding them in the right way, so that they might come into the town of their resting-place.

8God hath spoken in his holiness. I will rejoice, and I will divide Sichem and I will mete out the vale of tabernacles.

8They confess to Jehovah His kindness, And His wonders to the sons of men.

8Let men give praise to the Lord for his mercy, and for the wonders which he does for the children of men!

9Galaad is mine: and Manasses is mine and Ephraim the protection of my head. Juda is my king:

9For He hath satisfied a longing soul, And a hungry soul hath filled <FI>with<Fi> goodness.

9He gives its desire to the unresting soul, so that it is full of good things.

10Moab the pot of my hope. Over Edom I will stretch out my shoe: the aliens are become my friends.

10Inhabitants of dark places and death-shade, Prisoners of affliction and of iron,

10Those who were in the dark, in the black night, in chains of sorrow and iron;

11Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?

11Because they changed the saying of God, And the counsel of the Most High despised.

11Because they went against the words of God, and gave no thought to the laws of the Most High:

12Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off ? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our armies?

12And He humbleth with labour their heart, They have been feeble, and there is no helper.

12So that he made their hearts weighted down with grief; they were falling, and had no helper.

13O grant us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.

13And they cry unto Jehovah in their adversity, From their distresses He saveth them.

13Then they sent up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow, and he gave them salvation out of all their troubles.

14Through God we shall do mightily: and he will bring our enemies to nothing.

14He bringeth them out from the dark place, And death-shade, And their bands He draweth away.

14He took them out of the dark and the black night, and all their chains were broken.
