1Praise ye Jehovah. Oh give thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good; For his lovingkindness endureth for ever.
1Let the Lord be praised. O give praise to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.
1Hallelujah! Give ye thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good; for his loving-kindness [endureth] for ever.
2Who can utter the mighty acts of Jehovah, Or show forth all his praise?
2Who is able to give an account of the great acts of the Lord, or to make clear all his praise?
2 Who can utter the mighty acts of Jehovah? [who] can shew forth all his praise?
3Blessed are they that keep justice, And he that doeth righteousness at all times.
3Happy are they whose decisions are upright, and he who does righteousness at all times.
3 Blessed are they that keep justice, [and] he that doeth righteousness at all times.
4Remember me, O Jehovah, with the favor that thou bearest unto thy people; Oh visit me with thy salvation,
4Keep me in mind, O Lord, when you are good to your people; O let your salvation come to me;
4 Remember me, O Jehovah, with [thy] favour toward thy people; visit me with thy salvation:
5That I may see the prosperity of thy chosen, That I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, That I may glory with thine inheritance.
5So that I may see the well-being of the people of your selection, and have a part in the joy of your nation, and take pride in your heritage.
5 That I may see the prosperity of thy chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the joy of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.
6 We have sinned with our fathers, We have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.
6We are sinners like our fathers, we have done wrong, our acts are evil.
6 We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.
7Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; They remembered not the multitude of thy lovingkindnesses, But were rebellious at the sea, even at the Red Sea.
7Our fathers did not give thought to your wonders in Egypt; they did not keep in memory the great number of your mercies, but gave you cause for wrath at the sea, even at the Red Sea.
7 Our fathers in Egypt considered not thy wondrous works; they remembered not the multitude of thy loving-kindnesses; but they rebelled at the sea, at the Red Sea.
8Nevertheless he saved them for his name’s sake, That he might make his mighty power to be known.
8But he was their saviour because of his name, so that men might see his great power.
8 Yet he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make known his might.
9He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it was dried up: So he led them through the depths, as through a wilderness.
9By his word the Red Sea was made dry: and he took them through the deep waters as through the waste land.
9 And he rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; and he led them through the deeps as through a wilderness.
10And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
10And he took them safely out of the hands of their haters, and kept them from the attacks of those who were against them.
10 And he saved them from the hand of him that hated [them], and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
11And the waters covered their adversaries; There was not one of them left.
11And the waters went over their haters; all of them came to an end.
11 And the waters covered their oppressors: there was not one of them left.
12Then believed they his words; They sang his praise.
12Then they had faith in his words; they gave him songs of praise.
12 Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.
13They soon forgat his works; They waited not for his counsel,
13But their memory of his works was short; not waiting to be guided by him,
13 They soon forgot his works; they waited not for his counsel:
14But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tempted God in the desert.
14They gave way to their evil desires in the waste land, and put God to the test in the dry places.
14 And they lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and temptedGod in the desert.
15And he gave them their request, But sent leanness into their soul.
15And he gave them their request, but sent a wasting disease into their souls.
15 Then he gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul.
16They envied Moses also in the camp, AndAaron the saint of Jehovah.
16They were full of envy against Moses among the tents, and against Aaron, the holy one of the Lord.
16 And they envied Moses in the camp, [and] Aaron, the saint of Jehovah.
17The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, And covered the company of Abiram.
17The earth opening put an end to Dathan, covering up Abiram and his band.
17 The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram;
18And a fire was kindled in their company; The flame burned up the wicked.
18And a fire was lighted among their tents; the sinners were burned up by the flames.
18 And fire was kindled in their company; a flame burned up the wicked.
19They made a calf in Horeb, And worshipped a molten image.
19They made a young ox in Horeb, and gave worship to an image of gold.
19 They made a calf in Horeb, and did homage to a molten image;
20Thus they changed their glory For the likeness of an ox that eateth grass.
20And their glory was changed into the image of an ox, whose food is grass.
20 And they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.
21They forgat God their Saviour, Who had done great things in Egypt,
21They had no memory of God their saviour, who had done great things in Egypt;
21 They forgotGod their Saviour, who had done great things in Egypt,
22Wondrous works in the land of Ham, And terrible things by the Red Sea.
22Works of wonder in the land of Ham, and things of fear by the Red Sea.
22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, terrible things by the Red Sea.
23Therefore he said that he would destroy them, Had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, To turn away his wrath, lest he should destroythem.
23And he was purposing to put an end to them if Moses, his special servant, had not gone up before him, between him and his people, turning back his wrath, to keep them from destruction.
23 And he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses, his chosen, stood before him in the breach, to turn away his fury, lest he should destroy [them].
24Yea, they despised the pleasant land, They believed not his word,
24They were disgusted with the good land; they had no belief in his word;
24 And they despised the pleasant land; they believed not his word,
25But murmured in their tents, And hearkened not unto the voice of Jehovah.
25Talking against him secretly in their tents, they did not give ear to the voice of the Lord.
25 But murmured in their tents: they hearkened not unto the voice of Jehovah.
26Therefore he sware unto them, That he would overthrow them in the wilderness,
26So he made an oath against them, to put an end to them in the waste land:
26 And he lifted up his hand to them, that he would make them fall in the wilderness;
27And that he would overthrow their seed among the nations, And scatter them in the lands.
27That their children might be mixed among the nations, and sent away into other lands.
27 And that he would make their seed fall among the nations, and disperse them through the countries.
28They joined themselves also unto Baal-peor, And ate the sacrifices of the dead.
28And they were joined to Baal-peor, and took part in the offerings to the dead.
28 And they joined themselves unto Baal-Peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead;
29Thus they provoked him to anger with their doings; And the plague brake in upon them.
29So they made him angry by their behaviour; and he sent disease on them.
29 And they provoked [him] to anger with their doings; and a plague broke out among them.
30Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment; And so the plague was stayed.
30Then Phinehas got up, and made prayer for them; and the disease went no farther.
30 Then stood up Phinehas and executed judgment, and the plague was stayed;
31And that was reckoned unto him for righteousness, Unto all generations for evermore.
31And all the generations coming after him kept the memory of his righteousness for ever.
31 And that was reckoned unto him for righteousness, from generation to generation, for evermore.
32They angered him also at the waters of Meribah, So that it went ill with Moses for their sakes;
32They made God angry again at the waters of Meribah, so that Moses was troubled because of them;
32 And they moved him to wrath at the waters of Meribah, and it went ill with Moses on their account;
33Because they were rebellious against his spirit, And he spake unadvisedly with his lips.
33For they made his spirit bitter, and he said unwise things.
33 For they provoked his spirit, so that he spoke unadvisedly with his lips.
34They did not destroy the peoples, As Jehovah commanded them,
34They did not put an end to the peoples, as the Lord had said;
34 They did not destroy the peoples, as Jehovah commanded them;
35But mingled themselves with the nations, And learned their works,
35But they were joined to the nations, learning their works.
35 But they mingled with the nations, and learned their works;
36And served their idols, Which became a snare unto them.
36And they gave worship to images; which were a danger to them:
36 And they served their idols; and they were a snare unto them:
37Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto demons,
37They even made offerings of their sons and their daughters to evil spirits,
37 And they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto demons,
38And shed innocent blood, Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, Whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with blood.
38And gave the blood of their sons and their daughters who had done no wrong, offering them to the images of Canaan; and the land was made unclean with blood.
38 And shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood.
39Thus were they defiled with their works, And played the harlot in their doings.
39So they became unclean through their works, going after their evil desires.
39 And they were defiled with their works, and went a-whoring in their doings.
40Therefore was the wrath of Jehovah kindled against his people, And he abhorred his inheritance.
40Then the wrath of the Lord was burning against his people, and he was angry with his heritage.
40 Then was the anger of Jehovah kindled against his people, and he abhorred his inheritance;
41And he gave them into the hand of the nations; And they that hated them ruled over them.
41And he gave them into the hands of the nations; and they were ruled by their haters.
41 And he gave them into the hand of the nations; and they that hated them ruled over them:
42Their enemies also oppressed them, And they were brought into subjection under their hand.
42By them they were crushed, and made low under their hands.
42 And their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.
43Many times did he deliver them; But they were rebellious in their counsel, And were brought low in their iniquity.
43Again and again he made them free; but their hearts were turned against his purpose, and they were overcome by their sins.
43 Often did he deliver them; but as for them they provoked [him] by their counsel, and they were brought low by their iniquity.
44Nevertheless he regarded their distress, When he heard their cry:
44But when their cry came to his ears, he had pity on their trouble:
44 But he regarded their distress, when he heard their cry;
45And he remembered for them his covenant, And repented according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.
45And kept in mind his agreement with them, and in his great mercy gave them forgiveness.
45 And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his loving-kindnesses;
46He made them also to be pitied Of all those that carried them captive.
46He put pity into the hearts of those who made them prisoners.
46 And he caused them to find compassion of all those that had carried them captives.
47 Save us, O Jehovah our God, And gather us from among the nations, To give thanks unto thy holy name, And to triumph in thy praise.
47Be our saviour, O Lord our God, and let us come back together from among the nations, so that we may give honour to your holy name, and have glory in your praise.
47 Save us, Jehovah ourGod, and gather us from among the nations, to give thanks unto thy holy name, [and] to triumph in thy praise.
48 Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, From everlasting even to everlasting. And let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye Jehovah.
48Praise be to the Lord God of Israel for ever and for ever; and let all the people say, So be it. Give praise to the Lord.
48 Blessed be Jehovah theGod of Israel, from eternity and to eternity! And let all the people say, Amen! Hallelujah!
