1Whoso is loving instruction, is loving knowledge, And whoso is hating reproof <FI>is<Fi> brutish.
1A lover of training is a lover of knowledge; but a hater of teaching is like a beast.
1Whoso loveth correction loveth knowledge; But he that hateth reproof is brutish.
2The good bringeth forth favour from Jehovah, And the man of wicked devices He condemneth.
2A good man has grace in the eyes of the Lord; but the man of evil designs gets punishment from him.
2A good man shall obtain favor of Jehovah; But a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
3A man is not established by wickedness, And the root of the righteous is not moved.
3No man will make himself safe through evil-doing; but the root of upright men will never be moved.
3A man shall not be established by wickedness; But the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
4A virtuous woman <FI>is<Fi> a crown to her husband, And as rottenness in his bones <FI>is<Fi> one causing shame.
4A woman of virtue is a crown to her husband; but she whose behaviour is a cause of shame is like a wasting disease in his bones.
4A worthy woman is the crown of her husband; But she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
5The thoughts of the righteous <FI>are<Fi> justice, The counsels of the wicked--deceit.
5The purposes of upright men are right, but the designs of evil-doers are deceit.
5The thoughts of the righteous are just; Butthe counsels of the wicked are deceit.
6The words of the wicked <FI>are<Fi> : `Lay wait for blood,' And the mouth of the upright delivereth them.
6The words of sinners are destruction for the upright; but the mouth of upright men is their salvation.
6The words of the wicked are of lying in wait for blood; But the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
7Overthrow the wicked, and they are not, And the house of the righteous standeth.
7Evil-doers are overturned and never seen again, but the house of upright men will keep its place.
7The wicked are overthrown, and are not; But the house of the righteous shall stand.
8According to his wisdom is a man praised, And the perverted of heart becometh despised.
8A man will be praised in the measure of his wisdom, but a wrong-minded man will be looked down on.
8A man shall be commended according to his wisdom; But he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.
9Better <FI>is<Fi> the lightly esteemed who hath a servant, Than the self-honoured who lacketh bread.
9He who is of low position and has a servant, is better than one who has a high opinion of himself and is in need of bread.
9Better is he that is lightly esteemed, and hath a servant, Than he that honoreth himself, and lacketh bread.
10The righteous knoweth the life of his beast, And the mercies of the wicked <FI>are<Fi> cruel.
10An upright man has thought for the life of his beast, but the hearts of evil-doers are cruel.
10A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast; But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
11Whoso is tilling the ground is satisfied <FI>with<Fi> bread, And whoso is pursuing vanities is lacking heart,
11He who does work on his land will not be short of bread; but he who goes after foolish men is without sense.
11He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread; But he that followeth after vain persons is void of understanding.
12The wicked hath desired the net of evil doers, And the root of the righteous giveth.
12The resting-place of the sinner will come to destruction, but the root of upright men is for ever.
12The wicked desireth the net of evil men; But the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.
13In transgression of the lips <FI>is<Fi> the snare of the wicked, And the righteous goeth out from distress.
13In the sin of the lips is a net which takes the sinner, but the upright man will come out of trouble.
13In the transgression of the lips is a snare to the evil man; But the righteous shall come out of trouble.
14From the fruit of the mouth <FI>is<Fi> one satisfied <FI>with<Fi> good, And the deed of man's hands returneth to him.
14From the fruit of his mouth will a man have good food in full measure, and the work of a man's hands will be rewarded.
14A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth; And the doings of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.
15The way of a fool <FI>is<Fi> right in his own eyes, And whoso is hearkening to counsel <FI>is<Fi> wise.
15The way of the foolish man seems right to him? but the wise man gives ear to suggestions.
15The way of a fool is right in his own eyes; But he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel.
16The fool--in a day is his anger known, And the prudent is covering shame.
16A foolish man lets his trouble be openly seen, but a sharp man keeps shame secret.
16A fool’s vexation is presently known; But a prudent man concealeth shame.
17Whoso uttereth faithfulness declareth righteousness, And a false witness--deceit.
17The breathing out of true words gives knowledge of righteousness; but a false witness gives out deceit.
17He that uttereth truth showeth forth righteousness; But a false witness, deceit.
18A rash speaker is like piercings of a sword, And the tongue of the wise is healing.
18There are some whose uncontrolled talk is like the wounds of a sword, but the tongue of the wise makes one well again.
18There is that speaketh rashly like the piercings of a sword; But the tongue of the wise is health.
19The lip of truth is established for ever, And for a moment--a tongue of falsehood.
19True lips are certain for ever, but a false tongue is only for a minute.
19The lip of truth shall be established for ever; But a lying tongue is but for a moment.
20Deceit <FI>is<Fi> in the heart of those devising evil, And to those counselling peace <FI>is<Fi> joy.
20Deceit is in the heart of those whose designs are evil, but for those purposing peace there is joy.
20Deceit is in the heart of them that devise evil; But to the counsellors of peace is joy.
21No iniquity is desired by the righteous, And the wicked have been full of evil.
21No trouble will come to upright men, but sinners will be full of evil.
21There shall no mischief happen to the righteous; But the wicked shall be filled with evil.
22An abomination to Jehovah <FI>are<Fi> lying lips, And stedfast doers <FI>are<Fi> his delight.
22False lips are hated by the Lord, but those whose acts are true are his delight.
22Lying lips are an abomination to Jehovah; But they that deal truly are his delight.
23A prudent man is concealing knowledge, And the heart of fools proclaimeth folly.
23A sharp man keeps back his knowledge; but the heart of foolish men makes clear their foolish thoughts.
23A prudent man concealeth knowledge; But the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.
24The hand of the diligent ruleth, And slothfulness becometh tributary.
24The hand of the ready worker will have authority, but he who is slow in his work will be put to forced work.
24The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; But the slothful shall be put under taskwork.
25Sorrow in the heart of a man boweth down, And a good word maketh him glad.
25Care in the heart of a man makes it weighted down, but a good word makes it glad.
25Heaviness in the heart of a man maketh it stoop; But a good word maketh it glad.
26The righteous searcheth his companion, And the way of the wicked causeth them to err.
26The upright man is a guide to his neighbour, but the way of evil-doers is a cause of error to them.
26The righteous is a guide to his neighbor; But the way of the wicked causeth them to err.
