1The Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father; but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.

2Treasures of wickedness shall profit nothing: but justice shall deliver from death.

2Wealth which comes from sin is of no profit, but righteousness gives salvation from death.

3The Lord will not afflict the soul of the just with famine, and he will disappoint the deceitful practices of the wicked.

3The Lord will not let the upright be in need of food, but he puts far from him the desire of the evil-doers.

3Jehovah suffereth not the soul of the righteous [man] to famish; but he repelleth the craving of the wicked.

4The slothful hand hath wrought poverty: but the hand of the industrious getteth riches. He that trusteth to lies feedeth the winds: and the same runneth after birds, that fly away.
