1And it cometh to pass, after the plague, that Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, and unto Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, saying,

1After the blood of the guilty was shed, the Lord said to Moses and to Eleazar the son of Aaron, the priest:

1Now after the disease was over, the Lord said to Moses and Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest,

2`Take up the sum of all the company of the sons of Israel, from a son of twenty years and upward, by the house of their fathers, every one going out to the host in Israel.'

2Number the whole sum of the children of Israel from twenty years old and upward, by their houses and kindreds, all that are able to go forth to war.

2Let all the children of Israel be numbered, by the names of their fathers' families, all those of twenty years old and over who are able to go to war in Israel.

3And Moses speaketh--Eleazar the priest also--with them, in the plains of Moab, by Jordan, <FI>near<Fi> Jericho, saying,

3Moses therefore and Eleazar the priest, being in the plains of Moab upon the Jordan over against Jericho, spoke to them that were

4`From a son of twenty years and upward,' as Jehovah hath commanded Moses and the sons of Israel who are coming out from the land of Egypt.

4Let all the people of twenty years old and over be numbered, as the Lord has given orders to Moses and the children of Israel who have come out of Egypt.

5Reuben, first-born of Israel--sons of Reuben: <FI>of<Fi> Hanoch <FI>is<Fi> the family of the Hanochite; of Pallu the family of the Palluite;

5Ruben the firstborn of Israel. His sons were Henoch, of whom is the family of the Henochites: and Phallu, of whom is the family of the Phalluites:

9His sons, were Namuel and Dathan and Abiron. These are Dathan and Abiron the princes of the people, that rose against Moses and Aaron in the sedition of Core, when they rebelled against the Lord:

9And the sons of Eliab: Nemuel and Dathan and Abiram. These are the same Dathan and Abiram who had a place in the meeting of the people, who together with Korah made an outcry against Moses and Aaron and against the Lord:

10and the earth openeth her mouth, and swalloweth them and Korah, in the death of the company, in the fire consuming the two hundred and fifty men, and they become a sign;

10And the earth opening her mouth swallowed up Core, many others dying, when the fire burned two hundred and fifty men. And there was a great miracle wrought,

10And they went down into the open mouth of the earth, together with Korah, when death overtook him and all his band; at the time when two hundred and fifty men were burned in the fire, and they became a sign.

11and the sons of Korah died not.

11That when Core perished, his sons did not perish.

11But death did not overtake the sons of Korah.

53`To these is the land apportioned by inheritance, by the number of names;

53To these shall the land be divided for their possessions according to the number of names.

53Let there be a division of the land among these, for their heritage, in relation to the number of names.

54to the many thou dost increase their inheritance, and to the few thou dost diminish their inheritance; <FI>to<Fi> each according to his numbered ones is given his inheritance.

54To the greater number thou shalt give a greater portion, and to the fewer a less: to every one, as they have now been reckoned up, shall a possession be delivered:

54To those families who are more in number, give a greater heritage; to those who are less in number, a smaller part: to every one let the heritage be given in relation to the number in his family.

55`Only by lot is the land apportioned, by the names of the tribes of their fathers they inherit;

55Yet so that by lot the land be divided to the tribe and families.

55But let the distribution of the land be made by the decision of the Lord: by the names of the tribes of their fathers let their heritage be given them.

56according to the lot is their inheritance apportioned between many and few.'

56Whatsoever shall fall by lot, that shall be taken by the more, or the fewer.

56As it is ordered by the decision of the Lord, let distribution be made between those who are more in number and those who are less.

57And these <FI>are<Fi> numbered ones of the Levite by their families: of Gershon <FI>is<Fi> the family of the Gershonite; of Kohath the family of the Kohathite; of Merari the family of the Merarite.

57This also is the number of the sons of Levi by their families: Gerson, of whom is the family of the Gersonites: Caath, of whom is the family of the Caathites: Merari, of whom is the family of the Merarites.

57These were those of the Levites who were numbered by their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites: of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites: of Merari, the family of the Merarites.

58These <FI>are<Fi> families of the Levite: the family of the Libnite, the family of the Hebronite, the family of the Mahlite, the family of the Mushite, the family of the Korathite. And Kohath hath begotten Amram,

58These are the families of Levi: The family of Lobni, the family of Hebroni, the family of Core. Now Caath begot Amram:

58These are the families of Levi: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korahites. And Kohath was the father of Amram.

59and the name of Amram's wife is Jochebed, daughter of Levi, whom <FI>one<Fi> hath born to Levi in Egypt; and she beareth to Amram Aaron, and Moses, and Miriam their sister.

59Who had to wife Jochabed the daughter of Levi, who was born to him in Egypt. She bore to her husband Amram sons, Aaron and Moses, and Mary their sister.

59Amram's wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom he had in Egypt: by Amram she had Moses and Aaron and their sister Miriam.

60And born to Aaron Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar;

60Of Aaron were born Nadab and Abiu, and Eleazar and Ithamar:

60Aaron's sons were Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

61and Nadab dieth--Abihu also--in their bringing near strange fire before Jehovah.

61Of whom Nadab and Abiu died, when they had offered the strange fire before the Lord.

61Death overtook Nadab and Abihu when they made an offering of strange fire before the Lord.

62And their numbered ones are three and twenty thousand, every male from a son of a month and upwards, for they have not numbered themselves in the midst of the sons of Israel; for an inheritance hath not been given to them in the midst of the sons of Israel.

62And all that were numbered, were twenty-three thousand males from one month old and upward: for they were not reckoned up among the children of Israel, neither was a possession given to them with the rest.

62Of these, twenty-three thousand males, from one month old and over, were numbered: they were not numbered with the rest of the children of Israel, for they had no heritage among the children of Israel.

63These <FI>are<Fi> those numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who have numbered the sons of Israel in the plains of Moab, by Jordan, <FI>near<Fi> Jericho;

63This is the number of the children of Israel, that were enrolled by Moses and Eleazar the priest, in the plains of Moab upon the Jordan, over against Jericho.

63All these were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest when the children of Israel were numbered in the lowlands of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.

64and among these there hath not been a man of those numbered by Moses, and Aaron the priest, who numbered the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai,

64Among whom there was not one of them that were numbered before by Moses and Aaron in the desert of Sinai.

64But among all these was not one of those numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest when the children of Israel were numbered in the waste land of Sinai.

65for Jehovah said of them, `They do certainly die in the wilderness;' and there hath not been left of them a man save Caleb son of Jephunneh, and Joshua son of Nun.

65For the Lord had foretold that they should die in the wilderness. And none remained of them, but Caleb the son of Jephone, and Josue the son of Nun.

65For the Lord had said of them, Death will certainly overtake them in the waste land. And of them all, only Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua, the son of Nun, were still living.
