Mark 3

1And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there who had his hand withered.

1Jesus went back into the synagogue, and there was a man there with a paralyzed hand.

2And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him.

2The people there watched Jesus closely to see if he would heal the man on the Sabbath, because they wanted to find a reason to accuse him.

3And he saith unto the man that had his hand withered, Stand forth.

3Jesus said to the man with the paralyzed hand, "Stand up here in front of everyone."

4And he saith unto them, Is it lawful on the sabbath day to do good, or to do harm? to save a life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

4Then he asked the people, "Does the law allow us to do good on the Sabbath, or to do evil? Is it for saving a life or for killing?" But they stayed silent.

5And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their heart, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth; and his hand was restored.

5Jesus looked around at them with anger, deeply saddened by how stubborn and hard-hearted they were. He said to the man, "Hold out your hand." The man held it out, and his hand was completely healed.

6And the Pharisees went out, and straightway with the Herodians took counsel against him, how they might destroy him.

6The Pharisees left immediately and began meeting with the followers of Herod to plot how they could kill Jesus.

7And Jesus with his disciples withdrew to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed; and from Judæa,

7Jesus went away to the lake with his disciples, and a huge crowd followed him from Galilee and Judea.

8and from Jerusalem, and from Idumæa, and beyond the Jordan, and about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, hearing what great things he did, came unto him.

8Many people also came from Jerusalem, Idumea, the other side of the Jordan River, and the areas around Tyre and Sidon. This large crowd came to him because they had heard about all the things he was doing.

9And he spake to his disciples, that a little boat should wait on him because of the crowd, lest they should throng him:

9Because there were so many people, Jesus told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him so the crowd wouldn't crush him.

10for he had healed many; insomuch that as many as had plagues pressed upon him that they might touch him.

10He had healed so many people that everyone who was sick pushed forward, trying to touch him.碎

11And the unclean spirits, whensoever they beheld him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.

11Whenever people possessed by evil spirits saw him, they would fall down in front of him and scream, "You are the Son of God!"碎

12And he charged them much that they should not make him known.

12But Jesus gave them strict orders not to tell anyone who he was.

13And he goeth up into the mountain, and calleth unto him whom he himself would; and they went unto him.

13Then Jesus went up on a mountain and called for the specific men he wanted, and they came to him.

14And he appointed twelve, that they might be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,

14He chose twelve men to be his apostles so they could be with him and so he could send them out to preach.

15and to have authority to cast out demons:

15He also gave them the power to force out demons.

16and Simon he surnamed Peter;

16These are the twelve he chose: Simon (whom he named Peter),

17and James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and them he surnamed Boanerges, which is, Sons of thunder:

17James and John, the sons of Zebedee (whom he nicknamed Boanerges, which means "Sons of Thunder"),

18and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphæus, and Thaddæus, and Simon the Cananæan,

18Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot,

19and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. And he cometh into a house.

19and Judas Iscariot, who later betrayed him. Then Jesus went into a house.

20And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.

20Once again, such a large crowd gathered that Jesus and his disciples couldn't even find time to eat.

21And when his friends heard it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.

21When his family heard about this, they went to get him because people were saying, "He has lost his mind."

22And the scribes that came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and, By the prince of the demons casteth he out the demons.

22The religious scholars who had come down from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebul! He is using the power of the prince of demons to force out demons."

23And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?

23So Jesus called them over and spoke to them using stories. He asked, "How can Satan force out Satan?

24And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

24If a kingdom fights against itself, that kingdom cannot last.

25And if a house be divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.

25If a family fights against itself, that home will fall apart.

26And if Satan hath risen up against himself, and is divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.

26And if Satan fights against himself and is divided, he cannot stand; he is finished.

27But no one can enter into the house of the strong man, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.

27In fact, no one can enter a strong man's house and take his things unless he ties up the strong man first. Only then can he rob the house.

28Verily I say unto you, All their sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and their blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:

28I tell you the truth, people can be forgiven for all their sins and whatever insults they speak against God.

29but whosoever shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit hath never forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin:

29But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of a sin that lasts forever."

30because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

30He said this because they were saying, "He has an evil spirit in him."

31And there come his mother and his brethren; and, standing without, they sent unto him, calling him.

31Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived. They stood outside and sent someone in to call for him.

32And a multitude was sitting about him; and they say unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.

32A crowd was sitting around Jesus, and they told him, "Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you."

33And he answereth them, and saith, Who is my mother and my brethren?

33Jesus answered, "Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?"

34And looking round on them that sat round about him, he saith, Behold, my mother and my brethren!

34He looked at the people sitting in a circle around him and said, "Look, here are my mother and my brothers!碎

35For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

35Anyone who does what God wants is my brother and sister and mother."
