Matthew 25

1Then shall the kingdom of the heavens be made like to ten virgins that having taken their torches, went forth to meet the bridegroom.

1Then shall the kingdom of heaven be like to ten virgins, who taking their lamps went out to meet the bridegroom and the bride.

1Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, the friends of the bride, who took their lights, and went out with the purpose of meeting the husband.

2And five of them were prudent and five foolish.

2And five of them were foolish and five wise.

2And five of them were foolish, and five were wise.

3They that were foolish took their torches and did not take oil with them;

3But the five foolish, having taken their lamps, did not take oil with them.

3For the foolish, when they took their lights, took no oil with them.

4but the prudent took oil in their vessels with their torches.

4But the wise took oil in their vessels with the lamps.

5Now the bridegroom tarrying, they all grew heavy and slept.

5Now the husband was a long time in coming, and they all went to sleep.

6But in [the] middle of [the] night there was a cry, Behold, the bridegroom; go forth to meet him.

6And at midnight there was a cry made: Behold the bridegroom cometh. Go ye forth to meet him.

6But in the middle of the night there is a cry, The husband comes! Go out to him.

7Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their torches.

7Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.

7Then all those virgins got up, and made ready their lights.

8And the foolish said to the prudent, Give us of your oil, for our torches are going out.

8And the foolish said to the wise: Give us of your oil, for our lamps are gone out.

8And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lights are going out.

9But the prudent answered saying, [We cannot,] lest it might not suffice for us and for you. Go rather to those that sell, and buy for yourselves.

9The wise answered, saying: Lest perhaps there be not enough for us and for you, go ye rather to them that sell and buy for yourselves.

9But the wise made answer, saying, There may not be enough for us and you; it would be better for you to go to the traders and get oil for yourselves.

10But as they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and the [ones that were] ready went in with him to the wedding feast, and the door was shut.

10Now whilst they went to buy the bridegroom came: and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage. And the door was shut.

10And while they went to get oil, the master came; and those who were ready went in with him to the feast: and the door was shut.

11Afterwards come also the rest of the virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us;

11But at last came also the other virgins, saying: Lord, Lord, open to us.

11After that the other virgins came, saying, Lord, Lord, let us in.

12but he answering said, Verily I say unto you, I do not know you.

12But he answering said: Amen I say to you, I know you not.

12But he made answer and said, Truly I say to you, I have no knowledge of you.

13Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour.

13Watch ye therefore, because you know not the day nor the hour.

13Keep watch, then, because you are not certain of the day or of the hour.

14For [it is] as [if] a man going away out of a country called his own bondmen and delivered to them his substance.

14For even as a man going into a far country called his servants and delivered to them his goods;

14For it is as when a man, about to take a journey, got his servants together, and gave them his property.

15And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to each according to his particular ability, and immediately went away out of the country.

15And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to every one according to his proper ability: and immediately he took his journey.

15And to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to everyone as he was able; and he went on his journey.

16And he that had received the five talents went and trafficked with them, and made five other talents.

16And he that had received the five talents went his way and traded with the same and gained other five.

16Straight away he who had been given the five talents went and did trade with them, and made five more.

17In like manner also he that [had received] the two, [he also] gained two others.

17And in like manner he that had received the two gained other two.

17In the same way he who had been given the two got two more.

18But he that had received the one went and dug in the earth, and hid the money of his lord.

18But he that had received the one, going his way, digged into the earth and hid his lord's money.

18But he who was given the one went away and put it in a hole in the earth, and kept his lord's money in a secret place.

19And after a long time the lord of those bondmen comes and reckons with them.

19But after a long time the lord of those servants came and reckoned with them.

19Now after a long time the lord of those servants comes, and makes up his account with them.

20And he that had received the five talents came to [him] and brought five other talents, saying, [My] lord, thou deliveredst me five talents; behold, I have gained five other talents besides them.

20And he that had received the five talents coming, brought other five talents, saying: Lord, thou didst deliver to me five talents. Behold I have gained other five over and above.

20And he who had the five talents came with his other five talents, saying, Lord, you gave into my care five talents: see, I have got five more.

21His lord said to him, Well, good and faithful bondman, thou wast faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter into the joy of thy lord.

21His lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant, because thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will place thee over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

21His lord said to him, Well done, good and true servant: you have been true in a small thing, I will give you control over great things: take your part in the joy of your lord.

22And he also that had received the two talents came to [him] and said, [My] lord, thou deliveredst me two talents; behold, I have gained two other talents besides them.

22And he also that had received the two talents came and said: Lord, thou deliveredst two talents to me. Behold I have gained other two.

22And he who had the two talents came and said, Lord, you gave into my care two talents: see, I have got two more.

23His lord said to him, Well, good and faithful bondman, thou wast faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

23His lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant: because thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will place thee over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

23His lord said to him, Well done, good and true servant: you have been true in a small thing, I will give you control over great things: take your part in the joy of your lord.

24And he also that had received the one talent coming to [him] said, [My] lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou hadst not sowed, and gathering from where thou hadst not scattered,

24But he that had received the one talent, came and said: Lord, I know that thou art a hard man; thou reapest where thou hast not sown and gatherest where thou hast not strewed.

24And he who had had the one talent came and said, Lord, I had knowledge that you are a hard man, getting in grain where you have not put seed, and making profits for which you have done no work:

25and being afraid I went away and hid thy talent in the earth; behold, thou hast that which is thine.

25And being afraid, I went and hid thy talent in the earth. Behold here thou hast that which is thine.

25And I was in fear, and went away, and put your talent in the earth: here is what is yours.

26And his lord answering said to him, Wicked and slothful bondman, thou knewest that I reap where I had not sowed, and gather from where I had not scattered;

26And his lord answering, said to him: Wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sow not and gather where I have not strewed.

26But his lord in answer said to him, You are a bad and unready servant; if you had knowledge that I get in grain where I did not put seed, and make profits for which I have done no work,

27thou oughtest then to have put my money to the money-changers, and when I came I should have got what is mine with interest.

27Thou oughtest therefore to have committed my money to the bankers: and at my coming I should have received my own with usury.

27Why, then, did you not put my money in the bank, and at my coming I would have got back what is mine with interest?

28Take therefore the talent from him, and give it to him that has the ten talents:

28Take ye away therefore the talent from him and give it him that hath ten talents.

28Take away, then, his talent and give it to him who has the ten talents.

29for to every one that has shall be given, and he shall be in abundance; but from him that has not, that even which he has shall be taken from him.

29For to every one that hath shall be given, and he shall abound: but from him that hath not, that also which he seemeth to have shall be taken away.

29For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have more: but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

30And cast out the useless bondman into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

30And the unprofitable servant, cast ye out into the exterior darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

30And put out the servant who is of no profit into the outer dark: there will be weeping and cries of sorrow.

31But when the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit down upon his throne of glory,

31And when the Son of man shall come in his majesty, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit upon the seat of his majesty.

31But when the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then will he be seated in his glory:

32and all the nations shall be gathered before him; and he shall separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats;

32And all nations shall be gathered together before him: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats:

32And before him all the nations will come together; and they will be parted one from another, as the sheep are parted from the goats by the keeper.

33and he will set the sheep on his right hand, and the goats on [his] left.

33And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left.

33And he will put the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.

34Then shall the King say to those on his right hand, Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from [the] world's foundation:

34Then shall the king say to them that shall be on his right hand: Come, ye blessed of my Father, possess you the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

34Then will the King say to those on his right, Come, you who have the blessing of my Father, into the kingdom made ready for you before the world was:

35for I hungered, and ye gave me to eat; I thirsted, and ye gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in;

35For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat: I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in:

35For I was in need of food, and you gave it to me: I was in need of drink, and you gave it to me: I was wandering, and you took me in;

36naked, and ye clothed me; I was ill, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came to me.

36Naked, and you covered me: sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me.

36I had no clothing, and you gave it to me: when I was ill, or in prison, you came to me.

37Then shall the righteous answer him saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungering, and nourished thee; or thirsting, and gave thee to drink?

37Then shall the just answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry and fed thee: thirsty and gave thee drink?

37Then will the upright make answer to him, saying, Lord, when did we see you in need of food, and give it to you? or in need of drink, and give it to you?

38and when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in; or naked, and clothed thee?

38Or when did we see thee a stranger and took thee in? Or naked and covered thee?

38And when did we see you wandering, and take you in? or without clothing, and give it to you?

39and when saw we thee ill, or in prison, and came to thee?

39Or when did we see thee sick or in prison and came to thee?

39And when did we see you ill, or in prison, and come to you?

40And the King answering shall say to them, Verily, I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it to me.

40And the king answering shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me.

40And the King will make answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Because you did it to the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.

41Then shall he say also to those on the left, Go from me, cursed, into eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

41Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels.

41Then will he say to those on the left, Go from me, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire which is ready for the Evil One and his angels:

42for I hungered, and ye gave me not to eat; I thirsted, and ye gave me not to drink;

42For I was hungry and you gave me not to eat: I was thirsty and you gave me not to drink.

42For I was in need of food, and you gave it not to me; I was in need of drink, and you gave it not to me:

43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye did not clothe me; ill, and in prison, and ye did not visit me.

43I was a stranger and you took me not in: naked and you covered me not: sick and in prison and you did not visit me.

43I was wandering, and you took me not in; without clothing, and you gave me no clothing; ill, and in prison, and you came not to me.

44Then shall they also answer saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungering, or thirsting, or a stranger, or naked, or ill, or in prison, and have not ministered to thee?

44Then they also shall answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister to thee?

44Then will they make answer, saying, Lord, when did we see you in need of food or drink, or wandering, or without clothing, or ill, or in prison, and did not take care of you?

45Then shall he answer them saying, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have not done it to one of these least, neither have ye done it to me.

45Then he shall answer them, saying: Amen: I say to you, as long as you did it not to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.

45Then will he make answer to them, saying, Truly I say to you, Because you did it not to the least of these, you did it not to me.

46And these shall go away into eternal punishment, and the righteous into life eternal.

46And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting.

46And these will go away into eternal punishment; but the upright into eternal life.
